OR they could work on improving their immune system.

Apart from the nonsense detox numbnuts .... I read an immunologist say the only way to improve your immune system, other than catching diseases and surviving ... was through vaccination ...

Partly true, it’s why people who work with small kids tend to get sick often when they first start out, until they’ve caught all the bugs the little people are spreading and built an immune response to them.

But there are a few other factors, mostly to do with keeping on top of your general health, getting enough sleep etc. My docs (GP and specialist) are constantly testing me for vitamin and mineral levels, thyroid and kidney function etc (I’m so tired of blood tests, boss!), as well as the markers that indicate whether I’m ingesting any gluten thru cross-contamination etc. It’s a known thing with coeliac (and a few other auto-immune conditions) that if your immune system is busily overreacting to whatever triggers it, it doesn’t respond well to any bugs you’re picking up either. So diet, supplementing the vitamins you don’t absorb well, and generally trying not to be tired and run down are important as well. And of course get vaccinations, including the flu jab - it’s just not the only thing my doctors focus on. If you get ‘glutened’, it’s not uncommon to get colds, gastro bugs etc in the few weeks after, because it wipes your immune system out.

The ‘tired and rundown’ thing has previously been the theory about why elite athletes seem to have lower immunity, not sure if it still is.

But yeah, definitely avoid hospitals like the plague - best place to pick up MRSA, VRE, or whatever new antibiotic-resistant superbug is incubating that we don’t even know about yet. And surgical wounds (+ other open wounds - it’s why they postpone surgery if you’ve got a cut, burn etc) are where they get in. Personally know a guy who lost a leg to infection after a ‘routine‘ knee surgery, in a good hospital.

I think lower body fat also equates to a lower immune system?

Yeah, it’s all related. Many elite athletes (depending on the sport) sit below the body fat ranges considered normal/healthy. It’s a known thing for a percentage of female athletes in particular sports to actually stop menstruating, which gives you some idea that things aren’t functioning totally normally in there under heavy training/competition loads! Same thing will happen with eating disorders.

I think the word boost is a furphy foisted on the gullible by charlatans trying to sell kale and supplements to the gullible ..... ... your immune system is a natural function of your body ... for it to work as designed it requires the appropriate chemicals ... eg copper for one ... , but as copper is common in many foods very few people suffer from a deficiency .. but if you did, taking copper would not boost your system ... it would simply allow it to work as designed ..

Your immune system works by first identifying a threat, and then sending the right anti-bodies to defeat it .... how quickly your system recognises the threat and correct response can only really be improved (boosted) by vaccination, ... none of that is aided by kale or supplements ..

Obviously overall health is a factor ... it doesn't boost anything, it simply allows your body to operate as planned .... but that is also true for your entire system, lungs, heart, kidneys, liver, brain function etc....

Always amazes me with amount if infections players get with an op.
Can someone enlighten me how they can happen?
I mean surely they’ve gone to the best hospitals with the best surgeons etc so how does it happen?
Any time you put in a screw / mesh / graft “foreign material” increases risk of infection. These things have no blood supply and so antibiotics don’t penetrate them. Only answer is to remove.
Having said that, I suspect his surgeon would have encouraged him to rest rather than go out (allegedly) stabbing people and jumping over fences!!

Totally agree that marketing vitamins or whatever as an ‘immune booster’ is garbage. But given that a helluva lot of people are not running their bodies on premium fuel and Magnatec, so to speak, sorting out diet, exercise, sleep patterns etc to get everything functioning as designed is a significant ‘boost’ in real terms for many people.

May not be a popular comment but here goes.

There's a lot of negative feeling towards many of our players at the moment mostly aimed at DCE, DW (that's me), our wingers, our 3/4 line, Levi, the bench forwards etc etc....

While yes they are struggling i feel this kid has a lot to answer for. Poor young guy. Wrong place wrong time. PR videos.... its all BS.

No.9 is such an important position. Its almost the oil that makes the entire thing run.

MF has really f.u.c.k.e.d. this season with his stupid wanna be gangsta bollocks. I was not a huge Api fan (mostly his poor pass selection skills) but to have let him go and backed this kid only for him to do something so stupid is is laughable.

If you mix with the wrong crowd. If you pull gang signs in most of your photos. WTF....

Such a talent and such a complete F.u.c.k.u.p..... MF if you don't end up doing a stretch behind bars you need to pay back this great club big time.
