Are all of these roles his responsibility?

Only hearsay I know but I heard that the board were in control of much of this and Lowe was just a front man.

But I have zero inside knowledge, as I say just what I have heard a few times.

Number of applicants is no indication of quality, 80 of those could have been ST forum members for all we know. Sh!t I'd have a crack at it for $200K if that's what they were offering.

If there was a better applicant than Lowe then why weren't they hired ?? The board as a WHOLE had to approve Lowe's appointment I would imagine, so who is to blame if he wasn't the best candidate ? If there wasn't a better applicant than Lowe then what were the board to do ?? Did you want to continue through the season with a caretaker CEO and continue what may have been a fruitless search ?

I hear what you are saying, but let's see what the start of next season brings, we may well have a sponsor locked in by then. Things have definitely been quieter on the factional infighting front this season, which augurs well for a more united club moving forward.

With all due respect to Lowe, they were not looking for the best candidate, they were looking for the best candidate that everyone could agree on.

If they were looking for the best candidate Mayer would still be here.

I have the solution.

Penn buggers off from being an owner and max pays the major sposorship.

Penn then as a third party pays 10 players an extra 100K per year if they stay at manly, uses them in tv adds etc to get his money back.

we then can be like the bongos/soufs etc and have a chance of winning

The problem is that Max got hit for six by the GFC.  He is too proud to admit it, but he's still in big trouble.

A receiver doesn't sell your house unless you are in pretty deep.  And if he had the property valued at $9m, how much borrowings do you think he had secured against it?  My guess is the $7m they are asking for will cover the debt owed to the bank or thereabouts (if they can get it).

http://news.domain.com.au/domain/real-estate-news/slow-sales-by-the-beach-20101108-17jgy.html

This is very sad for both Max and our club.  He really was our saviour when hitting the wall was a very real possibility, but moving forward he simply doesn't have hundreds of thousands of dollars (or millions of dollars) of spare cash to pour into a black hole any more.  Ownership of a rugby league club is hardly the best investment going, and Penn is the one that secured the land at Brookie so all Max has really been doing is funneling more and more money into the club with no return.

It wouldn't surprise me if Penn ends up buying Max out.  Max will of course fight tooth and nail to stop it happening, but in the end I think he may end up having little alternative.  The infighting may have damaged us in 08/09, but we are lucky to have two owners rather than have all our eggs in one basket.  Look what happened to the Sydney Kings.

If the recruitment for the CEO was anything like the memberships role....

Just like Lowey with you Kiwi, lol.

I have never been in one camp or the other mate, willing to give a bloke a go at the job, while many haven't been
Until when?
a full year in the job will be a starting point

So far, if we want to say that he is the guy responsible for every role in the club, which is the general theme

Squad wise, I may be 1 of the few, but am happy with where we are at. Prior to the kickoff of this season, I said I would be happy to end the year with Lyon, Matai, Foran, Stewart and Watmough all staying with the club, that has been achieved. Am a bit disappointed we couldn't hold Farrar though, Hodkinson I am still 50/50 on

Membership wise, personally I feel that the new packages that have been put out are the best this club has had, if the numbers don't increase I can't really put it down to management as there is something there for everyone

Sponsorship is the main one at the moment that needs to be sorted, I knew of the Centrebet one a while back, and we still have 4 months until kickoff to land the big one

Membership and sponsorship follow success and positive exposure of our club. That didn't happen much at all in 2010 and the current finanicial strain on businesses doesn't help either.

The ****fight through the media did more damage to our "brand" than most pepole care to admit. I believe all is quite at the top because of that reason.

No business in their right mind would put good money up for Manly at the moment. I love the club as much as all of you - but I run a decent business and it would damage my brand to be associated with the club after the Brett Stewart trial... regardless of his acquittal - mud sticks and the lay consumer is ill-informed. Add to that pathetic home crowds, fair weather fans and a piss poor free to air program last year - we don't make for a solid investment. This sort of sponsorship is put in the social/corporate responsibility bucket - and we don't fit the bill at present.

I suspect that when they get a new major sponsor - which they will - the vast majority of what they provide will probably be contra products/services along with a reduced cash payment. Which could be an OK scenario if they can partner with someone whose products/services can reduce overall operating costs.

They need to look local - somewhere where they can use their biggest asset - the players. Somewhere where the mud from last year is not as thick as it is seen through maroon & white glasses. We need someone whose market is Manly.... the big multinationals are great - but it's pie in the sky - there is more than enough money in the North of Sydney to make this a highly successful club.

A strategic plan where the sponsor is only one of many strings to the bow of revenue is the biggest step forward they can make - but hey, they may have one of those.... but I am sure they wouldn't tell us if they did :)

Love it. 8)

Just put it on one of our work computers as a wallpaper, sure it'll come back to bite me, but it got some of the other supporters going! Better than damn Steggles for us Roosters was my fave response so far.

late in 2009 Roosters say to Steggles - "Sponsor us and we can guarantee you free to air coverage for the first 5 rounds"

Steggles reply "But you were wooden spooners...why would the telly put you on for the first 5 rounds"

Yes, why indeed.....

Todd - good post mate

With out boardroom issues we should seek sponsorship from a firm specialising in corporate dispute resolution. Or maybe marriage guidance counsellors    :)

Oh come on people....wakey wakey....?

We can all lob a whole chunk of companies with a logo and an internet presence on here but getting a major sponsor is not just as simple as that.

As a minimum the club will be looking for a $1.5 - $2million dollars deal for major sponsorship (and quite rightly so?) - look at your income, look at the value of your house if you have one? - If you struggle to pay $25 for a Football Club membership or more for a Sea Eagles membership then take a breath and realise the size of the challenge faced by the execs of the club?

It is a big ask...but look at the high profile people we have (MWSE, FC, Leagues Club, Eagles Angels etc etc) and it's fair to say that the club and those that love it are doing everything they can?

In way of closure on this have a look here and then realise the depth of what is required?

Happy to hear any suggestions or get contact details after that?

So what? It's usually too hot at xmas to wear footy jerseys. For xmas you can get Sea Eagles bon bons, I bought a box from our factory outlet today!

And don't worry Vid, when the sponsorship is eventually announced, for some people it will be too little, too late, not a prestigious enough company, plus our next grand final victory might be by an inferior margin given the high standards we have set.

Some have a glass half full, some have half empty, then there are those who don't even realise they have a glass at all because it's made of glass and they just can't see it  :)
