More damaging revelelations about parramatta and the salary cap coming out tomorrow
If proven guilty they surely must play for no points this year
You can kind of accept people being naive, or even incompetent, but if you get advised that something is amiss, you choose to ignore that advice, then you really don't have a leg to stand on. The big issue has always been did people at the club deliberately mislead the NRL, because I don't think the NRL will give us any leniency if that can be proved. And assuming they have this email they can now provide there was deliberate deception. I"m more concerned that Hooper was confident enough to run with this because you would think that would require an NRL confirmation, and if they're confirming this, we're in a lot of trouble.
Parramatta Eels were warned over dodgy Anthony Watmough NRL deal
THE NRL is aware of documents detailing how the Parramatta Eels board of directors were warned about a potential salary cap problem in relation to a third-party deal for big-name recruit Anthony Watmough.
The documents show how the Eels chief financial officer last year told the club the Watmough deal had the potential to put Parramatta in breach of the salary cap rules.
While there is no suggestion Watmough has done anything wrong, the latest red flag for the Eels will put further pressure on the club’s power brokers.
The issue for the Eels around the Watmough warning is the club’s CFO warned the board of a possible problem last June.
The Eels then signed a statutory declaration last October guaranteeing they had complied with the NRL’s salary cap rules, ignoring the warning from the CFO.
The development comes as the Eels board of directors and club power brokers find themselves embroiled in a fresh salary cap investigation.
With a new election for the club’s board approaching in May,
The Daily Telegraph has published explosive allegations about the Eels deliberately devising ways to skirt around the NRL’s strict salary cap rules and regulations.
Champion Eels fullback Jarryd Hayne, who is now playing NFL with the San Francisco 49ers, is also at the centre of the allegations after details emerged he was paid $39,000 after leaving the club.
The Watmough warning will form part of the NRL’s widespread investigation into the way the Eels have been handling the salary cap.

New salary cap breach claims unknown to NRL: reports
MARCH 9, 201612:03PM
CONFIDENTIAL internal documents from the Parramatta Eels NRL club reportedly show the board and senior executives have overseen a culture of flouting salary cap rules by rewarding players’ third-party sponsors with corporate boxes.
The Daily Telegraph reported on Wednesday that board minutes from 2014 show rewards for third parties, such as free and fully catered corporate hospitality, were discussed openly at the highest levels of the club.
The reports also claim that a Parramatta official paid former star Jarryd Hayne tens of thousands of dollars well after he left the club to join the San Francisco 49ers NFL team.
Hayne’s manager has denied any knowledge of the payments.
The Eels have already forked out a $465,000 fine for salary cap breaches in 2014.

Channel 7 reported on Wednesday the NRL’s recent salary cap investigation into the Eels’ books did not inspect the $39,000 worth of payments reportedly made to Hayne last year.
There is no suggestion Hayne has done anything wrong.
It has also been reported the NRL was not previously aware of the claims of prohibited third party payment sourcing made against the Eels.
Under NRL salary cap rules, NRL clubs can’t be involved in any way in sourcing third party payments which must be made directly from a third party top the player.
“Third party agreements are payments made by companies directly to players,” NRL rules state.
“There is no restriction on the amount a player can earn through third party agreements where he is being paid for his own intellectual property, without the need to employ club logos or names and where the company involved is neither a club sponsor nor are they acting on behalf of a club to secure the player’s services.

“All third party agreements must be registered and approved beforehand. This is to ensure that they do not become a way for clubs or players to use sponsors or third parties to undermine the salary cap. There are provisions for club sponsors to enter into agreements with elite players and for details see the Marquee Player Allowance section.”
Former NRL coach Matthew Elliott said he was shocked by The Daily Telegraph report.
“I can’t believe it,” Elliott told Fox Sports News.
“It’s just astounding. The fact that it’s been signed off on by the chairman of the board of directors as well. The biggest inhibiting factor for on-field performance at Parramatta over recent years has been their front office and the leadership of the organisation.
“I just hope for (Eels coach) Brad Arthur’s sake, that that’s not a distraction to his team and he can keep them on course. He has to talk about it. He is talking about it at training right now.”
The NRL only last week concluded a review into the Eels’ administration which forced the club to make front office and board room changes to avoid being stripped of competition points.
“Both the NRL and the Eels believe these governance changes will help the club become more stable and, ultimately, more successful and that is what the fans and members want to see,” NRL head of integrity Nick Weeks said.
