Local juniors

Oldfield, hoppa, king, watmough, Mauro - wonder when we last had 5 local juniors in 1st grade? Add foran from st Ives, and a bunch of players who have been with manly since they were teens.. Wonder if any other nrl clubs have this many? (qld teams don't count, as they claim any queenslander!). I can remember a time when cleary, elsegood, Menzies, Hancock, gartner, tooves and Chris Ryan were in the side.

Ps, Anyone whinging about lack of recruitment now ;0)

Actually, the service station at Cromer wher Stewie worked was Derek Moritz's BP. Derek was a great fullback/ winger and goal kicker.

I wasn't aware Cleary was a local junior.  Elsegood was related to Bumper Farrell.  Just read a book about that Bluebag stalwart.  Well worth a read.  One tough hombre.

Cleary, yep, he was a couple of years below me at beacon hill high school. May be a dark horse for our next coach if Dessie ever wants to retire, and tooves doesn't want the job.

That would be an interesting choice.  He'd probably be very good as he certainly has a ton of respect and is intelligent.  A very good player of both codes.

Toovs wants the job, without a shadow of a doubt he is our next coach.

I'll be happy with either.  Toovs certainly is an influence when  on the field.  He was such a fantastic player.  So tough.
