Lawton a gun

Lawtons success on an edge makes me wonder (again) if Froggy could make a transition to a mobile 13 (edited). He can defend there for sure as we know.

I know this has been discussed on here before but I would love to see it given a go....but hey coach knows best!

Not 8 but maybe a 13. Perhaps he will do that when interchanging with simpkin.

Lawton was great Sunday, soon as we had big Oka out, first thought was Fifita is going to be a serious pest for us on that edge and with DCE defending there tired from SOO and Garrick who has made some grea tackles, but is still learning his defensive reads (but improving)...could be havoc that edge.
Lawton made big plays and even included a few 1 on 1 tackles to stop Titan attacks in their tracks.
In attack looked sharp also and apart from an early attacking miss between him and DCE (which was more DCE) , he was on point ALL game.
Does not have the X factor of big ka, but he is ultra consistent reliable player and in this way has it over Oka....great to have a team that currently is not bring in D grade performers to "Fill in" and in fact , Lawton was 1 of our Best Sunday.

More than once ive compared him to cam Murray on here. Probably not as good but similar styles and attributes

Never played him where he belongs IMO and the saddest thing i doubt the cowboys will either.looks like a back up hooker . Really good footy player

A bit like dylan walker. Took a while for all the moons to align as as they became very freakin handy, poof

I don't think you can call someone a poof anymore. I know... the world has gone mad

Is Froggy coming back?

I’m upset to lose Lawton as he is a great player when in the 2nd row, feel like he was wasted a lot being played at hooker but injuries to Croker have also forced the coaches hand until the signing of Simpkin.

On the other hand I can understand letting him go since he has had a ton of injuries over his career (probably not far from medical retirement). It’s also always exciting to see who the club will bring in to replace him, just from having a quick look at players not signed for 25 I think the club would have Jack Williams from sharks & Joe Chan(2025 MO) in Melbourne at the top of the list.

Chan looked to have a lot of talent at the start of the year but it’s tough to see him breaking into the storm team anytime soon with Katoa & Blore both in good form. Williams to me would be a similar signing to what Lawton was, hard working, versatile player that could be used as a utility option if Burbo is injured.

Controversial but I also wouldn’t be apposed to Ryan Matterson if Eels were paying a big chunk of his salary. The head knocks & attitude are concerning but seeing the way Siebs has revived Brown & Talau’s careers it would be interesting to see if he could work his magic on Matterson. I know people will say he is passed his best but we all thought the same about Browny & now he is in close to career best form with a fresh start

Ageed, except for dropping off the tackle on Papalii that gave the Faders their first try.
I think Paseka was at fault there. He shot up out of the line to make a point at Joe Tapine and it meant Lawton had to hit in and one on one with Papa close to line and a full head of steam, is going to beat the best defender. When you defend as a unit, you stay connected and Paseka can roll off Tapine there and help Lawton manage big Papa.

Got that good knack of finding gaps or half gaps to help put the attack on his side on the front foot
Then his ability to play capably as a 9 , quite vigorous defender .
Just cap related of course and general priorities and a better offer elsewhere .
Would have been handy to retain and some really good individual plays to kick Manly along on a few important occasions but just the way it goes also of course
