Lawton a gun

the lack of hooker
jake playing first receiver pushing him to 13

the reasons we have never seen the best of lawman consistently.

we have been choc full of utilities trying to squeeze more in, as our specialists have struggled

To be fair, a spate of injuries and a big suspension have curtailed Lawton’s time at Manly. I’m a huge fan but he is only now starting to get back to the form he showed when he first arrived and played edge forward.

It’s a shame that it’s taken this long for an injury free run and some decent game time. One gets the feeling he would have been in our plans if we’d seen this earlier.

Great to see him finally fulfill his potential with us.

Would love him to stay, but doesn't seem like the sort of bloke to renege on a signed contract.

Good player having a good run but I think some are getting a little over excited here.
I dont think ee have seen the absolute best of him in his time here but I acrually think he is UNDER-rated because he is not a big-bodied, explosive type If player...
I put him in the Josh Curran / Kenny Bromwich mould of player that are critical to the success of the team but tend to not get the accolades...

Scott Sorensen type I'd say. Scotty is now 31 but only late in his career could he cement a 1st grade spot, and became a premiership winner with Panthers.

In fact Manly should be scouting 'the next Scott Sorensen'
Here's Scott's NRL games:

Lawton was great yesterday, soon as we had big Oka out, first thought was Fifita is going to be a serious pest for us on that edge and with DCE defending there tired from SOO and Garrick who has made some great tackles, but is still learning his defensive reads (but improving)...could be havoc that edge.
Lawton made big plays and even included a few 1 on 1 tackles to stop Titan attacks in their tracks.
In attack looked sharp also and apart from an early attacking miss between him and DCE (which was more DCE) , he was on point ALL game.
Does not have the X factor of big Oka, but he is ultra consistent reliable player and in this way has it over Oka....great to have a team that currently is not bring in D grade performers to "Fill in" and in fact , Lawton was 1 of our Best yesterday.

I haven’t seen anyone suggest anything over the top, just that he is playing well, which he is. He wouldn’t cost much so it’s a shame a good cheapie is leaving.
I think he's more than just a "good cheapie", as well. Seems to be one of those guys that other players like being around, very low maintenance, and a good team man all around. He's been an excellent fit with this team from day one. His problem has been frequent injuries and suspensions, as well as being used primarily as a backup hooker (which fitted our needs).

As you say, he is playing well. And he looks determined to go out on a high note, so all we can do is wish him all the best when he does move on.

I guess I was reacting to, and paraphrasing here.

Motm yesterday
Better in attack than Haumole
Better all round game then Haumole

Which I do think ate a bit overexcited.

He is doing well atm no doubt, has always been an edge.

Ah OK well I didn’t read that so yeah that’s a bit much haha. Ola every day of the week! But, Lawton’s form means he is a loss for our squad so I am a little disappointed.

Tbf.. i had him very close to MOM yesterday - especially if you take out Tom (as did many others in MVP voting) and he was great last week against knights too...

Whilst I could not (and do not want to) make the argument that he is "better in attack than Huamole"... I reckon, when you take into account Karl's defensive numbers, work around the ruck (taking advantage of slow markers) and his passing skills, there IS an argument that his all-round game is at least the equivalent of Guac..

Huamole certainly tackles harder, breaks more tackles and (probably) has more offloads but lacks Karl's speed/lateral movement and workrate whilst Guac would be no-chance at beating him in a passing competition...
