Okay, so you can hack that his oldest son is playing Yamnion, and he looks like a fat plodder anyway.

But I see in today's paper that his second oldest sprog has signed with a rival NRL club - predictably the Wests Tigers.

Time for this drunken buffoon to be shown the door methinks.

Well is that a bloody coincidence , hes gone to the tigers.
If this is indeed true , then you can see where Roach and family hearts lie.
Not with Manly!!

Ta Ta.

I've been posting for a long time that Roach should be shown the gate. His 'coaching' of the forwards leaves much to be desired, and his heart has always been with the tigers. With a load of forward skill in our own club, aside from the fattest fool, we should have a home grown and manly through and through coach leading the way. Enough is enough.

I dont understand where there is a debate. Our forwards are our weakness. If Roach is not performing he should be punted. If his loyalties are elswhere he should be punted. If he fits both its pretty damn obvious. A real no-brainer.

Playing the devils advocate does that mean we should punt Crusher as his son plays for someone else.

You parent all your life to teach your kids to be independent and then when they make up their own mind you get criticised. Is Wayne Pearce less of a Tiger as his son plays for the Rorters.

The measure for me is not where Crusher's loyalty lies (after all he gets paid and did play all his life for the Tigers) but is he any good at what he does and the best available? If he turns up and does the job - good. Otherwise find someone better. Noone has never been able to rate his effectiveness on the job though I assume the club and Des are happy as they keep hiring him!!

As a junior Kane played for the club Crusher worked for, not Manly.

When Cleal joined Manly, so did Kane. At least we were given first shot at him and decided he wasn't up to it.

I bet we never got a look in with Roach.

Is the kid a forward?

If so Blocker would be the best qualified to know he wont improve at Manly ;)

Funny about Blocker's second son. I saw him at the airport this time last year when they were there meeting the older son who was arriving home with the Rugby Aussie Schoolboys. He is a big unit, strong and fit and at the time was wearing a Manly T-Shirt. When I said 'Go Manly' he gave me a look that said - I am not a Manly supporter - just wearing the t-shirt.

looooong straw byso

blocker leaves a lot to be desired on the paddock, although the props went better this year so its hard to say, if all 4 improve the same amount as 2006 in 07 then i couldnt complain,, that IF!

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

How many sons of past greats turn out to be any good?

Blockers sons will probably turn out to be as good as the Mccarthy, Eadie, Randall or Fulton brothers.

And if he does turn out to be any good we can buy him in a couple of years for $500k per season.

Agree CW that it has nothing really to do with where his son plays and the associated loyalties.

There are two issues that trigger a negative thought process for me about Blocker.

1st is the performance issue and to my mind I was disappointed in the progress of our forwards in 06 (Kite being the exception). I just dont see obvious improvement in the skill sets of our forwards. IMO the overall performance of the forwards were artificially lifted by the 2 BKs. King, Choc, Bryant, were a disappointment. I didnt see signs of professional specialist coaching paying dividends. One could argue that Rose may well be the product of good specialist coaching but i think its fair to say he isnt up there yet so the point would be moot.

2nd is the loyalty factor and if the reports are true that Blocker is vocal in his suppport of the Tigers and has made statements that either disparage or mock Manly, its a relatively simple conclusion for me. Add to that (if again true) that he has missed attending on gameday by choice or due to other priorities, it wraps up the issue right then and there.

I think Manly have working well in the last couple of years to clear out the deadwood, however if those 2 above factors are accurate, the counter arguement that Des & Co are happy with him, does little to sway me away from thinking that Blocker should >>>>>>>like any other excess baggage.

The fact is that in 2005, Manly's forwards made less metres than any other team in the NRL according to Wayne Pearce. We also CONCEDED more metres than any other team in the NRL that same year.
We actually HAVE improved from that great benchmark in 2006, but not by much. Now we lose BK (our best forward by a mile). I shudder to think what a metre gaineage will be like under Roach in 07 BK'less. My thoughts go back to the Melbourne Storm game this year @ Melbourne, when it took us 12.5 minutes to actually have one tackle in the opposition 1/2 without BK on the park. Willow & co. just doesn't measure up to players like Creagh, Simms & co.

Having Roach advertise in the Manly News edition handed out @ each Manly Home games in his Tigers gear is ludicrous. I wonder what the sponsors think? Full page to that end as well !!!
To think he was proud to be singing his Tigers song with his mates (whilst employed by Manly) in 05 when HIS team made the grand final. I might go ahead and advertise for ANZ while I work @ Nab. Why isn't Roach a conflict of interest as well?
To think he laughed at his own team when they were decimated in 05 after one game. He did this publicly on the radio, bagging the very players he coached. Apparently Wilson was livid over the situation.
To think he went on NRL on Fox in 2005, stating that he would make sure his son played for no other club, apart from the Tigers. He actually said that !!! An employee of The Eagles. The club that assists him in paying his bills !
The same man that said he has never been happier than when the Tigers made the GF in 05. Wouldn't he prefer Manly to make it? I think not.

It's this blight at Manly we need to loose before we can progress in my opinion. We need Manly people, with Manly heart...

I ask you guys this...

Would Ricky Stuart advertise, sing the songs, and promote The Canberra Raiders while he was at The Roosters. No. Professionalism stops that type of thing.

Bring on BK as forwards coach. The Daily said he wanted some type of role. Let him have it.

BK great option to replace cockroach...but does he have the commitment to do the job fulltime? In Newcastle it has been reported that BK (because he didn't have the funds to purchase a fishing business) has been buying up businesses in Newcastle (restaurant..oops cafe') and a Fruit & Veggi store in Brisbane?
