Kobe Hetherington

I wouldn’t mind either the Raiders or Broncos winning the comp now… give some finals winning experience to Kobe and Jamal
Nice change to be signing established first graders from successful clubs

We missed out on all the good signings and got this guy. He is not very good average at best. Comes off the bench for the broncos. Jazz is a better player imo
I thought Jazz was surprisingly good for Manly this year but at 26 Kobe has plenty of upside and to have him locked in for a few seasons is a big plus for future planning.
He's not a marquee star but certainly above average.
Last year he was picked at lock in the PMs team that beat PNG

I think a better idea would be letting the Bears take Brooks and Garrick for 2027. This is also a matter of salary cap.

Nothing against either of these players, but this way, you're able to slowly develop Walsh into a first grader over the coming year, and you don't jeopardise his development. He isn't forced to play some hybrid hooker role for an extended period, and neither is Brooks. Brooks would give the Bears an effective kicking game, alongside the chief playmaker in Munster.

With regards to Garrick, this way, you could introduce the athletically gifted Onitoni Large through the centres, much like the Cowboys have done with Purdue. He's able to adapt to the NRL, whilst not overthrowing Fogarty too early. Onitoni could be moved into the halves in 2028, after a debut at some point next year, and two seasons of mentorship from the Fog. He'd be 21 that year.

Of course this is all too early to tell, but if I was the club, I'd be trying to follow a similar sort of path to this.
True. The Premiership window is over and its time for a rebuild. Brooks was brought in during a "Premiership window" and hence its probably for the best that mutually he leaves for a team that is in with a chance, since we won't be winning a premiership any time soon.

The one thing about brooks is his price , very reasonable . If we tried to move him on i doubt we would pay freight

Had a good first year, and took much more on this year

For years DCE was given a pass mark because the 6 was no good , and he had no help. Poor ol brooksy might be better if DCE pulled his finger out. Had a shocker season

Careful about saying anything remotely positive about Seibold on here... Cue the wolves derailing this thread!

Wouldn't surprise me though. It seems to me like the players have a good personal relationship with Seibold. He seems like a likeable guy from all the personal accounts I've heard of him.
It’s just as likely the signing has something to do with the Dymock/Hetherington bulldogs connection. Or has nothing to do with either, just money.

Great signing. If he’s as tough as his old man, then we are on a winner. I read somewhere that the only thing that held the signing up was getting his wife a full time job in whatever she does. Once that was secured, it’s was all good.
The ONLY thing he needs to work on is his on field discipline ( he would’ve been great in the pre-punch era). Unfortunately early on in his career Kobe was still accustomed to belting blokes in the head.
And he’s not in the Dads army age group either. A Cpl more would be nice.
You're not mixing him up with his hothead brother Jack are you? He's a deadset lunatic, but I can't say I've seen too much of that sort of aggro from Kobe?

Bomb Voyage is regularly on the money with club signings or prospective signings and mentioned recently that Manly bumped up an offer to him from the original approach so guess that was the main factor
Hardly seen him play much at all over the years but apparently has that rating of a reliable solid middle forward and if a like for like with Jazz and on similar money or slightly more ,probably as good as any signing out there
Maybe can even play or adapt to a bit of a 9 role to cover Simpkin but not sure how it is going to go with Tent , most likely T K O , Jake , Bully and also Kobe vying for prop positions
Realize Kobe to be able to cover 13 as well but would have thought Navale more to offer there just in the mobility category
Maybe they will compliment each other there and still have Brown and maybe also Lodge on the books and not to take into account those promising props in the lower grades
Guess at the present time , again a straight swap for Jazz and - or - Aloiai so seems on the right track there all things normal

I wonder if the Seibold connection to Brisbane helped here? I remember Carrigan praising Seibold & Kobe would have been in the lower grades when Seibold was at Brisbane.
Correct.

Haddad said Hetherington had a strong rapport with Manly coach Anthony Seibold who was the head mentor at the Broncos who "turned Kobe from a hooker into a lock".

So much for our doomsayers who kept saying no NRL player would want to be coached by Seibold

I’d suggest his GF moving to Sydney for a job and Manly’s upped offer had more of an impact

We have been linked to Kobe, haas, flegler and staggs over the last few years
Only got one

Does its ay seibs has a good relations at bonko HQ or bad as none of them signed
But strong links to his former club
Maybe 3rd parties blow us out of the water
Maybe this, maybe that

Recall the interest in Staggs was back in 2017 according to the then switched on Poster Snake so those Manly scouts were fairly well attuned to his promise at the time
Not too sure how close Manly came to signing him but even with his [ Staggs ] standing in the game now , would still take Koula any day of the week instead
Not too sure how close Flegler came to signing but think the offer was in the 700 K range or just under
Wonder if he would have avoided his chronic injury if he did join but would have then probably had to move on Tent or Ola if he was recruited and again even taking into account his injury issues , still feel better off with Tent and naturally Ola and could throw in Bully as well
Don "t really think Manly was ever really in the frame for Hass and hopefully Kobe is more then just a consolation prize
Still miss the presence of Snake on here but that could naturally apply to and as usual a whole heap of ex interesting and quality posters
Such is life .

Seems like a 4 year deal for more money may also have played a part, given he was set to stay at the broncos before we upped the ante. If he did come to Manly specifically to be coached by Seibold, then we can change “none” to “one”.

Plenty to unwind for sure. Manlys cap issues, team dynamic . Manager manipulation, Not sure how fair dinkum any of it was but it was written and read

But recruitment wasnt the point i was trying to make

I suppose i was just putting it out as a seibs coach reference.

Linked to former players indicated possibly he wasnt all bad

No conclusions made, just adding chat for interests sake
I prob wasnt clear enough, but nice add Al,
