Kobe Hetherington

This is a solid signing and an upgrade on those that are leaving us.

Funny story, my 15yr old son had him on about coming to Manly when he ran into him on the golf course. Kobe was pretty coy in his response. “You’ll have to wait and see mate….”

Certainly some good news for us.

Did the broncos release him? because on the 23rd July it is in the courier mail that he rejected a two year deal from broncos but extended for 1 more years.

Now normally I would blame the journo (peter badel) but the story quotes his manager

“It’s a great result,” said Hetherington’s manager Chris Haddad.

“Kobe is happy at the Broncos, so we were happy to extend for one year and we’ll see what happens after that.

“The Broncos offered us a two-year deal but we were happy to do another 12 months and Kobe will keep testing and challenging himself.

“He could have left the Broncos. Several Sydney clubs were keen on Kobe, but when we sat down with ‘Madge’ (Maguire), he wanted a chance to work with Kobe and he is enjoying being coached by Madge.

“We’re glad to have his future sorted. Kobe can relax now and focus on playing well for the Broncos in the run to the finals.”

As they say "a week is a long time in Rugby League" let alone a few months, and contracts mean nothing when suited.
They've got that Talty to replace him with at a lower cost who goes pretty well.

I don't think it was ever formalised. I think it was also dependent on "promises" from the Bears for 2027.
