To answer my own question, the Telegraph quotes his agent saying he hasn't been guaranteed a starting spot at Manly.

He's a workhorse. Which Jazz was, so maybe replacing Jazz more than Aloia?
But definitely a first grader and just what Manly needs, a tough no-nonsense type (to balance out one or two nonsense forwards we've got)

This is a great signing and the reality is we need to pay overs and offer additional years to win out in the player market; that’s not a choice, it’s a necessity for clubs that don’t offer other caveats, like a great system (Penrith) or brown bags (Roosters).

Given that’s the case, the club’s only way of screwing it up is choosing the wrong position to pay overs for…given Hethrington is a mobile middle with leg speed, it’s hard to see how this won’t be a good contract for Manly.
