Kelly deserves first shot

The more people mentioning this idea and logic about young GUN backline players, the MORE I want to see Kelly, Parker and Schuster in front of Wright(s), Uate and Taufua.
Give the young guns a chance to shine and they may just reminds us of that winning feeling again. Otherwise we replace them with some experience while they work on parts of their game in NSW Cup. If wright, Uate and Taufua gain form, confidence, leadership and catching skills in the NSW Cup for the start of the season, then the gamble with the new era backline won't have much downside at all either which way..

There will be no gamble, precisely because the downside of losing too many of the opening rounds is that our entire season would be doomed.
Kelley will get a start providing Barrett has no doubt he is ready for NRL level. But if he hasn't proved that yet, he can start the year in lower grades and force his way in, in the usual manner.

I think we might be saying the same thing..?
A 'gamble' is subjective, unless the matches are pre-determined, you could say we have to 'gamble' with various backline players until we settle on the best one. Use another adjective that you're more comfortable with and call it 'experimenting' if that's easier. I hope Trent sees enough evidence in Kelly to 'take a punt' on him in round 1. But like you said, if Trent doesn't think he's ready, he'll wait till he thinks he is and I can easily live with that..
All I really wanted to emphasise in that post is that- I hope Trent considers him ready for Round 1 coz I believe he could make a good impact from the begining of the season. My apologies if I stilled missed your point @SeaEagleRock8 :peace:

Not really! You want Barrett to send out 3 players who between them have a grand total of 4 NRL games, to line up against the likes of Jennings, Radradra and Takairangi. It would be a debacle.

Sorry mate haha in that case yeh I still stand by sending them out etc
but we obviously have different opinions about that and I'm sure we could both break down our reasoning a lot more. I'm also sure that either way, we'll both be supporting who ever Trent puts out there for Round 1 : )

I fee more hope going into Round 1 this year than I did last year : )

It's clear to me that they'll probably chose the safe options for round 1, and only bring in the others 1 at a time ( injury permitting) over the course of the first half of the year.

I know the Silvertails experts won't agree BUT it's probably the safest option when considering this is an almost totally new team.

If he has a sht game then he will have no chance

I think you meant " choice" , if so yes I agree.

This is a trial, and he simply might be throwing J Wright in saying " show us what ya got", so yes if he plays **** then Kelly might stroll in anyway.

Like most, i am surprised kelly wasnt picked as starting centre for the trial.

Unless j Wright is doing something we havnt seen yet, i would had kelly in.

I personally would LOVE to see that as would many here - those guys could be our future BUT we have a coach with his grapes on the chopping block..So I would guess it will be a safety first start to the season. Those fellas you mentioned however will be slotted in if the fellas playing A grade don't perform and we're in deep strife come round 4-5...
