Man, I want nothing more (well, maybe more) than to see Oka running full tilt on to the ball instead of the flat footed big palm thing he got in the habit of doing. A full steam Paseka, Keppie and Sipley can set the next runner up for sure. But can they do it?? Can they raise their game with Aloiai and possibly Bullemore?? We wait and see.
I think this has at least some part to do with how DCE plays on the right. Hard to run from the fences without clear structured plays. You would get tired of winding up consistently only to never receive the ball at the expected peak of that run.

I personally would have loved a Ben kennedy/Sam Burgess type signing....truth is, this mould of player is not available nor affordable.
But spare a thought - the real key to a successful team, is to nurture a crop of future stars and have them break into the NRL with a 1 - 2 year time frame and the only signings should be quality over quantity to inspire these potential stars and form an ultra competitive footy team.
The recent teams using this formula, would be Penrith and Cowboys who are both Top 4 sides and look to stay there for the next few years at least as a dominant force.
This could just be what we have starting in 2023 with big Oka imo up with the best young forwards in the comp and Koula already an auto selection, plus I feel we have not seen Paseka's best and could be up with the best forwards in the comp - I expect Flanagan to have a great effect on this big beast in 2023 and then add 3 - 4 more players including Weekes, Tuitivake, GCK all having the potential to push for a spot in the 17.
Roach is a true footballer and injury free will be in the mix, this could be a season of many "positive" suprises.
Also the young Cows forward Condon is looking the goods since moving South, so it's only several weeks till trials to see just how good he is.
I feel that left edge last season lacked X factor, as Davey was a hard working toiler and Bullemore seemed a bit lost, so I expect Tuilagi to have far more impact from day 1.
Maybe the signings have seemed on the quiet, but is this recognition to the young guns coming through this is their time and belief they can light up the NRL in 2023 ?
I am hoping this is the case and if even 2 rookies have impact and everything else falls into place, this could be an exciting season to watch a fast, enthusiastic footy side that is going forward in a big way....similar to 2005 - 2006 before we hit that "Golden era"
I’m not convinced the Cowgirls will be up there again next year. Could well be wrong, but would not be surprised to see them slip back down somewhat. They seem to be a pendulum swing team more so than a consistent Storm outfit.

Unfortunately HK they have a strong forward pack only improving on 2022 and I can assure they have some of the best youngsters coming through the ranks right now and will have another couple that will be household names by end of 2023.
Once their halves hit form - especially Deardon, they became a force.
Outside backs seem ordinary apart from the slick Holmes and old Feldt a great finisher....but they have rookies chomping and key postions, so can see them up there for a while, though you never know with injuries ect and last year may have just had that purple patch of form.
In saying that, I have them Top 4 and reckon unlucky to lose to Eels and get knocked out in last years finals....you are right though, very up and down side but the ceiling is very high imo.

Paseka and Sipley have caught our packs very contagious Jake Trbojevic Mr nice guy Virus .
Some one should tell Jake that there are no etiquette table manners on the footy field

We need to change our Packs nice guy Image and attitude
We need an intimidating enforcer mindset change in our pack

I hope Seibold can enforce this chance of image and attitude to our pack

We need an Image and attitude change from Angelic to Demonic

I think Jake was infected by that legendary nice guy forward ... Beaver

Guess that it a fairly straightforward equation , Tuilagi for Davey , Condon for Marty in terms of main new signings . Only proviso Condon can play a bit of edge also apparently . Very disrupted run with injuries last season with the pack as well , Alioia [ just like 2021 , can 't seem to get a clear run ] very hopefully can reverse that trend in the future . Have some confidence that Keppie and Boyle can offer something better but again so dependent on injury factors . Not too sure if Alioia can take a forward leadership type role , can make a real impact when he is relatively injury free but seems more an individual type approach . Paseka , also not quite a forward type leader but can go real well also when he is fit and on his game . Would think time for the likes of Tuitavake ,Fifita and Bulemor to produce something worthwhile , Sipley workman like , maybe has a bit more to offer , maybe not . Open question how Jake might be used this season and ongoing

We are definitely short of a premium aggressive prop imo.
I support not resigning Marty but we have not replaced him with anyone that can fulfill the role he was playing for us 3 to 4 years ago. Paseka is not this type of player but can play well alone side forwards that are able. Keppie on his day can but more often is hit and miss. Boyle is a professional bench warmer and Aloiai is good on his day but also too injury prone and can lose focus..

I think you dont get the big picture feathered friend

Beaver was a great player but he had the Balance of intimidation in the pack
He had players like Spud Carrol to balance things up

We do need the balance of aggression and Intimidation in our pack

We have Too many gentle giants in our pack led by the Nicest most lovable player in the NRL Jake.
Even his greatest on field rivals love him and they cannot wait to shake his hand and give him a hug at the end of each game and see his infectious friendly smiley face .

I go as far as saying
If your pack is not feared you are fckd

Imagine a State of Origin coach saying to his players

Listen Boys ,
This is game three and the decider
This game decides which state Rules Supreme !

I want you all to go out there and be nice

I want the leader of our team to infect all of you with his niceness

I want no form of Aggression and Intimidation

You may say
I am a dreamer
but I am not the only one
I hope some day our game is turned into a game of touch footy
and the world will be a nicer one

There is a place for being nice when we make love to our partner in our bed

We do not make love to the opposition players on the field

Yep agree 100% we definitely need someone with a scary presence like a JWH , James Fisher-Harris or a Nelson Asofa Slolomona. Paseka has the body shape just need to change face make it more angry looking maybe a goaty beard a rats tail haircut and a few aggressive tattoos and get him to wipe the smile off his face and just look angry all the time. And he needs to stick his face in up and close when he tackles someone.

These rules could apply to most of our pack - just cant see Jake doing it somehow

Maybe we just need a facial expression coach or an anger management coach who specialises in increasing anger.

Paseka is a confidence player and it’s my opinion injuries have resulted in him losing his nerve. He needs to play without fear and with real aggression. They need to get into his head.

Be good if Keppie ideally could take on more of a starting - controlled aggression type role , has shown it a few times in the past , probably in combo with Alioia . Then Paseka with his good mobility and agility at his best coming on . Maybe then Bulemor also with his good leg drive and mobility but also clear that he would have to up his defensive efforts . Talk of young Fifita having some above average ability , Tuitavake has shown he can go well , Sipley , Boyle and Condon should figure into calculations as well for any prop rotation . Then who knows with Jake "s possible alternative roles . Quite a few options but to be truly competitive , need some good consistent input and authority in the engine room and prop rotation up front
