Joey Walsh

Another downside to the D C E situation if Walsh is pretty much up to i st grade level for the start of next season and the start of Fogarty 's 3 year deal and in the context that D C E could not stay for one more season .
Realize that there were a few unknowns during the off season , with D C E apparently singing Walsh"s praises but also knowing that this season was his final one at Manly and who knows what the club was actually aware of
Then Joey "s difficult start to the year , encompassing trying to entice Fogarty and on what in all probability could well be a less then ideal 3 year arrangement .
Going to be a lot harder to keep Walsh in the fold if he is really hitting his straps next season , definitely ready to be a fully fledged 7 and obviously , 2 more years on Fogarty 's deal .
And to throw in the expansion clubs ready to go quite soon .
just am going to have to find a way to retain Walsh before Nov 1 st next year if he is really measuring up and ticking the boxes to be a long term Manly 7

If Fogarty wanted to keep playing I could see him leaving a year early to get a nice retirement contract for 3 years or so I’m Super League. Other option would be to have him in Reggie’s that last year if Walsh is killing it while he is still on a relatively cheap ‘rookie’ contract with the promise of an upgrade when Fog leaves. Not ideal but we are starting to see highly paid half’s sitting in Reggie’s e.g. Hastings, Fainu, Dodd etc

No such thing as a 'cheap rookie contract' if the player is going well. The manager will always agitate for more money & if refused, probably result in a messy exit.

Everyone saying what if Walsh comes on in leaps and bounds next year and we lose him because we signed Fogerty have a think about this. If he spits the dummy and isn't playing well enough to displace Fogerty or Brooks would it really be a loss?
I’d just like to, you know, see the guy play. There hasn’t been this much faith placed in a newbie since that young Jerusalem junior way back in the early 00’s.

Im sure these days halves can handle 7 & 6 so what if it was Walsh at 7 and Fog at 6 ?
There will also be injuries, with Brooks also around he can play 6 & 7 so im sure he fits in when there is an injury etc. when you are starting off your NRL career you hope Walsh would be happy to play to help the team and fit in at the right time and not throw his toys out of the cot in the early years.

At this rate, we are an injury away (or an origin series) from having to maybe call on Walsh this frikkin season! Heaven forbid if Fogarty or Brookes gets injured next year at any stage too..... this guys is well placed to learn, and be ready for his chance. How old will he be when Brookes' contract is up? 21?

Yep if Walsh takes off quickly we can also let Brooks walk at the end of 2026.

If the player gets a chance in 2028 & plays good he will get a upgrade for the following year… are you saying if he is playing good in reserve grade the next year or 2 he will agitate for more money? I don’t think so, lot of development left for him

I paid $7 to watch his debut on bar tv. Both him and the young no.9 from the Dogs appear to be fine examples of great recruitment. Walsh probably could have had more impact on the game if given more ball by the team, he certainly made the most of the opportunities he received. In alot of ways he appears to have a similar style to DCE….
A more off the cuff opportunistic style which would likely complement Jamal’s more structured style….

Walsh plays on the left and Fogarty plays on the right. I’m thinking Walsh will play 6 for us so it doesn’t really matter how long Fogarty is with us for.
