Joey Walsh

f Walsh is as good as they say (Not sold on him) he will push Fogarty out. Anybody who thinks he is close to first grade at any club is kidding themselves he can walk or wait.

If he is smart he will learn from Fogarty who has got everything out of himself as a player.

If Walsh is good enough, what do you do with the 700k we are paying Fogarty. There is a salary cap - that is why Canberra would not offer 3 years to a player Ricky " wanted " to keep.

Pretty simple walsh is not going to be a 700k player in 2 years. We could let Fogarty go (in 3rd) two new clubs desperate for a veteran half. You seem to be spinning the raiders line. Salary Cap will be increasing Schuster off the books, Jake with due respect will be getting less money if he signs on. I'm just not that concerned with the cap.

Honestly, in your opinion, has the club ever done anything positive?

Or even remotely borderline ok?

Yes, signed Ola, Koula, Garrick, Saab, Hoppa are all positives in the last couple of years.

Cheer squad boys need to be able to debate signings and their worth.
I hear from Mestrov and Spoony that Joey IS the future half at Manly, yet we are now telling him to wait around till he is 23.
Since you are so smart - why?

As to why, its because he's no where near good enough yet, nor does he have the experience or the body to support playing there against men at this stage. Will he get there, maybe but best to build the tool kit before throwing him under the bus

So he might be in 4 years time.
If we are still waiting 4 years, he will never be ready.

Exactly, the tried and tested method.

Bringing young players into first grade and then dropping them due to not being quite up to it, often doesn't do a lot for their confidence or development.

Ideally when they are nearly ready you give them a few runs as injury replacements. When they get their chance you want them to be good enough to hold it, such as Lehi has done.

The plan for Walsh is probably to give him a few looks at first grade next year and the following, when he'll be 19 and 20. Where he goes from there will be down to how he performs in those games.

Always a little trickier for a half, forwards can be given an extended run as benchies before becoming starters, but halves need to be ready to control the team for 80m, and aren't often picked on the bench either.

Isn’t Walsh an only 18?

At least we know where you will stand for the next three years....

Considering his development, which is just starting, who is to say he is not a 6 to Fogarty? Considering Brooks is contracted until 2027 that would be the same as if Fogarty was signed on 2 year deal re place opening up.

Regarding the salary cap I posted this before.

We currently have 11 of our top 30 players even contracted to start the 2027 season. Lets throw both the turbos in there and we have 13 players....and that is with the cap going up.

Now with expansion there is of course a risk of him being poached but the idea that the salary cap or players "holding him back" is not justified

I thought we had another generational kid called Antonio Large who is a 5/8th.
Why have both these kids in the top 30 if we are not going to play them.
