Joey Walsh

Was named to start in Flegg today but didn’t end up playing, does anyone know what happened? Bit disappointing that he can’t seem to string a few games together

If us idiots sign Fogarty for 3 years and 700k per year, we might as well say goodbye to Joey.

We wouldn't be able to afford to upgrade his contract and there would be another 35 year old in front of him.

If he is good enough, why wouldn't he be able to play first grade next year. He is 19 in May this year.

He is only just into the rugby league system now isn’t he ? There is absolutely no rush with him, DCE finished the 20s, had a year in reserve grade, then got his debut. Katoa considered elite and coming through the best system as a youngster hasn’t just slotted into NRL and found it easy, he is still developing some consistent now

I can’t see why signing a very good NRL halfback in a market that is low on them for 700k is going to give us any trouble going forward, that is a very good contract. And by the time all this comes about, I’d imagine both Trbojevic lads will be on a smaller contract than the currently are

Joey has played about 2 or 3 Flegg games and been injured for the rest including this week. Onitini Large is similar. Settle down everyone and let these kids get some games under their belt. If we get Jamal, there’s plenty of time to see how things play out before any pressure builds on where people fit in.
Agreed that Seibold needs to manage their expectations and development and he would be doing that.

There isn't a more brilliant young half than Sam Walker... but it was only towards the end of last year that he was consistently playing like a top NRL halfback.
Meanwhile he's racked up over 70 games and will shortly turn 23.
(And Chooks, despite an absolutely stacked roster, haven't got close to a grand final in the 4 years he's been the halfback)

I believe there is some guy called Galvin who is about to get 1 mill per year.
He is 12 months older than Walsh.

As I said, if he is as good as people say , we won't have him in 4 years when Fogarty contract is complete.

Not an attack on you but I recall Schuster being a big favourite of yours and I know you blame the club for his predicament, but I think you have to concede that there is a big enough sample size to suggest that no one can truly know what will happen with untried rookies. Jake Clifford was tipped to be a star. He was named the 2017 Dally M NYC Player of the Year at the Dally M awards and played in junior representative teams. Jake is now 27 years old and yet to play 100 FG games.

Basically, you're asking the club to put the next three years on hold, just in case Walsh ends up being as good as a few media puff pieces (from within the club itself) suggest. I think that's fraught with danger. We have to plan for the now before we plan for the future, or the club will stay stuck in a perpetual cycle of future prospecting. There's an element of this planning required but it should never be at the expense of winning a game today.

If Walsh or Large end up showing signs of being elite FG talents, I am sure the club will shop Fogerty, pay some freight, and clear a path. Until then, we need to back the horse that's ready to trot.

Yes Schuster was. Unfortunately he has failed everyone, including himself in his NRL career.

We were offering Fogarty 2 years which I think is a good move.

3 years I am not so sure for a 32 year old NRL player who is steady.
If Ricky truly wanted him like he keeps saying, he would have triggered the one year extension a week or so ago and given him another option for another year.

Yep, I think you make some valid points here.
