Jason Saab

Saab is almost the stereotypical winger.....runs like the wind and can score tries, usually.

But if his life depended on his defence, call the City Morgue.

I’m still wondering why he showed no urgency to get the ball down for the try that was disallowed. He could have dived with two hands outstretched and made certain of the grounding. Instead, he just jogged and nonchalantly attempted a grounding with one hand.

The Christian T try was also very relaxed defence. I’m finding him infuriating at the moment.

The Roosters ditched Dominic Young and I think he's a better player than Saab. That's the sort of ruthlessness you need if you want to compete with top teams on a regular basis.
They're also not afraid to give youngsters a go and give them a fair few games to prove themselves. To bring in Savala with other halves being also inexperienced and young, early on takes some guts.
Meanwhile Manly gives youngsters a few games then if they don't put in MOM performance then its back to reserve grade.

Only at the moment?

Agree with it all. I was a big fan of his, and 'sorta' still am, but it's like owing a Ferrari and living at the end of a pot-holed gravel country road.

He just doesn't seem to want to get stuck in.

First try he arm grabbed at a guy like a T-rex trying to catch a marble. When one of our players was being pushed over the sideline...it was like he placed a pinkie finger on the manly players back, removed it and said 'oh well, I tried'.

for a guy that's so tall, his feet seemed glued to the ground.

The basketball bounce for that no try was just so lazy.

You look at turbo, Koula, and Hopoate and the difference is chalk 'n cheese.

We need a V8 bathurst animal that can take a knock, not a faster f1 that loses it's poop if they don't get a straight line to the try line.

Again last week he didn't reach out to put the ball down

Saab has no heart for NRL and the contact at this level, let alone a feel for the game or certain skill sets. He rode a wave of motivation on the back of some words from his old man and an amazing blitz from Turbo during V’Landy ball. After things got tough, his lack of desire for this game and what it entails to play at this level shone bright. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him move on to an easier league or even quit before that ridiculous contract of his expires… that said, pleaseeeeee make a fool of me, Saab, and prove I’m just a sausage roll eating numpty. 🙏

turns out they already had better wingers (Tupou and Mark N)

Does Manly have better wingers? Probably yes, Lehi and Garrick, though Garrick might be too expensive to keep beyond next year. Saab is better than Ray. Clayton, not sure, he's a talent, maybe similar class to Daine Laurie, ie great back-up who can dominate at reserve level.

Willett is the one I'd like to see get a chance in first grade.

We need to find another home for him. He is not a first grader. Nice highlight reel but week in week out he makes more errors than the team should accept. I really hope we didn't pay overs for him
He is a first grader.
73 tries in 105 games, win percentage 53.3%
But his current weaknesses are more likely to be exploited by the best teams in the biggest games.
Give him 2026 to further develop, but if that's not working try someone else.

(At the time we signed him I thought it was an obvious attempt add extreme speed in order to take full advantage of the generational talent that is Turbo)
