Question: When was the last time Manly won any premiership without a specialist Hooker playing Hooker?

We all have our favorite Manly players for different reasons

The way I see it ,
All players are capable of specialising playing a certain position
But not all players are capable of dominating a game

Although Croker adds stability to Manly
He does not add the fear of Uncertainty to the Opposition teams
And Uncertainty is the Mother of all fears !

The moral of my story
The Capable can Complete
But only The Dynamic will Dominate

Manly hasn't but last years grand finalists went alright with Mitch Kenny and Billy Walters, both of whom I wouldn't swap Froggy for.

Bozo, it seems as though 'some in the know' may have similar thinking to you, as Woods & Parker are in reserves now & Croker has new guys applying pressure for his spot.

Don't get me wrong I think it's ridiculous to assume that Jamie will be a gun hooker. He has played like 20 games in reserve grade at hooker. Let's see how he goes against first graders.

By the way the 2 hookers in last year's GF were hardly what you'd call dominant. Walters and Kenny.

Only Time knows what type of hooker Jamie will turn out to be

Kenny is quick and Walters is good on his feet and both those traits add uncertainty in attack
There is no uncertainly in our defensive oriented Nine

Yes, both are not outstanding hookers. However, they played in very strong teams. Possibly only Turbo & Haumole would replace any players in the 2023 GF starting thirteens.

I'd make a case for DCE over Reynolds... Certainly wouldn't have messed up those dropouts...

If Broncos supporters were polled, I think they'd probably prefer to have the QLD skipper as their halfback, esp. as Reynolds is injury prone & DCE isn't.

He is talented,but let's not overhype the kid.
He was off contract and signed a one year contract to be a back up dummy half with us.
If he was the next big thing,I think he would have signed a more substantial multi year contract to be in the halves elsewhere (particularly as halves are very sought after).
He and Gordy are both off contract next year and whoever does the best will earn an extension to back up/tag team with Croker etc....
Let's not forget that Seibold brought in Arthur last year to be ahead of him as the back up half......
Throwing money at an untried player is what the club seems to be trying to avoid

I agree that it's unfair to put undue pressure on young players but are wrong about the rationale for a one year deal. Just like you were wrong when you said he was an ordinary goal kicker. There are lots of clubs interested in Jamie but he is a loyal and patient young man who wants to earn his position at Manly.
