Jamal Fogarty

Some would argue we also lost our main playmaker after Round 3.
He played exactly like every other year. Rocks and diamonds all year and we finished in our usual spot - 9th.
Carbon copy of almost every season. Flatter to deceive then fail when it counts.

Walker missed most of year and was best half in comp last 6 rounds
Made a meal of DCE when they flogged us at home
Losing your main playmaker for year is a lot worse than losing a 50 minute prop like Paseka
If he's fit next year they will make top 4. We won't be anywhere near them, particularly if Siebold plays it cautious and keeps picking Jake at 13.
We will see I guess.

Walker had the run of the team the last 6 rounds. He was the man.

Will he have that same control in 2026?

Or will they have two eyes us mecurial players trying to run the team without anyone to get them around the park.

Will be an interesting watch, I personally dont have them top 4 as it stands.

So Fogarty is your new whipping boy? @XV-1 You are nothing but predictable, that's for sure. Should we start a "Sack Fogarty" thread now, or wait until pre-season ends?

Have I said that?. Trying to calm down the next Messiah syndrome.

I hope he kills it next year, however we really need to have a plan for Joey Walsh as nobody would like to lose him.

What is your plan for our 3, maybe 4 half's into 2 that we will have for the next 2-3 years?

We can't live in the past. The only thing that us Manly fans can look forward to is the future.
The future is a slow 32 year old halfback signed for 3 years that has choked over the past month.

But we expect our young gun half to wait another 4 years before he plays first grade?
Year right, he will sign for some other team to play first grade in 27, or we have to quickly sell Fogarty mid next year and burn more good money 🤦‍♂️
Walsh had a field day running at and around Fogarty on Sunday.

@XV-1 It's all hypothetical at this stage, but I think Joey Walsh needs to be in the seventeen from Round One next season, and assuming his form justifies it, to stay there for the rest of the season. Where in the seventeen will depend on how the halves' combinations develop in the pre-season.

Ideally, we are playing Fogarty and Walsh as our seven & six from mid-season onwards. I also see Brooks as our bench utility from around that time (maybe earlier), with Onitoni Large allowed to debut in the centres towards the end of 2026.

By 2028 I am hoping that Walsh and Large will be our seven & six, with Fogarty either in the SL, or playing a bench role. Brooks will have moved on by that time as well. Our spine in 2028 could be Hopoate, Large, Walsh, Magutitia. Again, all hypothetical.

Should have really added position variation as well as contract , in that Brooks may have to looked at more in a Wishart , Haywood, Starling ? role and be considered in a possible 9 role as well not too far down the track and Walsh really emerging , Fogs doing well and Large a fair bit to offer as well
Large can quite possibly go well as a centre but a time soon when more then likely , that balance of youth and established player requirement to be taken quite seriously to give Manly maximum bang for buck or on available halfs , 9 - best choice positions
I would be keen to see Brooks in attack at hooker. Supporting up the middle is a strength of his. His general defence in the line on big forwards is as good as it gets. But 40 tackles a game in the ruck would be an entirely new ask. 15 minutes on the other hand.

But yeah I agree, if Froggy exits Brooks might have to vary it up. And given coach wasn't afraid to throw Walsh in at hooker when Simpkins wife was giving birth, I doubt they would have a reservation doing the same with Brooks.

I see Zaidis best position as lock ATM.

If he is or isn't up to NRL at the start of next year could be big.

As an aside this whole messiah narrative that keeps getting pushed the last few years......think it is way over used and a bit silly.

You can think a player can be a good signing or think a junior is promising without having people need to bemoan you for thinking someone is a messiah.

The general consensous for Fogarty or at least the most popular narrative is good signing, offers us sonething different in terms of organisation. I've not seen a single person reference him as a messiah/saviour/future of the club/silver bullet etc etc.

I saw it referenced for Navale too, claiming he aint the forward pack messiah many hope.....thing is never saw those claims too, just a promising young forward with some leg speed.

The only two players in the last 5 years or so that I thi k fit that sort of tag is Schuster, who didnt work out and Walsh who hopefully will.

Also as an aside to my aside 😂😂

12 months ago I remember many labasting the club for Humphries moving on and a few including 1 in particular calling the Walsh pickup media spin to appease fans and that he'd be no good.

Now we see Humphries for what I always though he is...solid and Walsh has to start round 1 next year with some wanting Brooks out.

Funny old game.

Brooks and Fog for round one and Walsh to make his way in if he deserves it.

Certainly would have to be a few provisos moving Brooks to a 9 role and more in the up tempo playing mode after Simpkin would say put in a good 20 - 25 min stint in either half
Then a utility role also for him if required into the mix
Taking into account too that he is a 600 - 650 K player right now but if Walsh is going to be hard to leave out of a run on side in the halfs and based strictly on form , may be inevitable to look at this type of option
Brooks's real or main asset attacking wise at 6 is still his smart show and go [ which i meant to say previously ] but particularly this season, much less effective for a couple of factors
Defence has again fortunately largely held up and could well prove a bit of a handful with dummy half scoots when the play has settled or slowed down a bit , like many other 9 's going around with similar effective speed off the mark
Hope that this Zaidis can progress well including as a 9 but know very little about him
Navale looked quite impressive to me in the closing stages of the season with his 13 role and very hopefully can get even better going into season 26

Fogarty has some genuine toe as well , well used to be quite noticeable in Q cup games and doubt if he has dropped much at all if anything since then
Pretty neat step to evade Walsh the other day as well
You would see a heap more club action then me so not really in a position to make a comparison on their individual passing attributes
D C E had a fair swerve but rarely saw him make a decent break or trouble the opposition in the general or just off the ruck area
He'll never live this down though.🤦‍♂️

Not sure but maybe Big Pappa had or does have a pretty decent burst for 20 - 25 meters
And an angle tap in the process but of course did exceptionally well to get or stay near him
Don 't think that anyone is suggesting Fogarty is in the speedster bracket but always had the impression ,can still get along
Anyway , good to look at interesting past incidents for a bit of relevance to the here and now

Fun Fact: The 1908, 1912, 1917, 1921, 1940, 1941, 1963 and 2000 seasons all ended in August.

The 1916 and 1924 seasons ended in July.

Until 2001 the majority finished in September.

Since 2002 they've all ended in October except 2007, 2012 and 2018 which ended in September.
…… you really need to get a hobby!

Just sayin’

I agree there’s been no overt messiah references but I think people are letting their distaste for DCE as a person, cloud their judgement on his footballing ability.

He’s clearly in another league to Jamal Fogarty. I don’t have to list the comparative accolades to make my point. He’s so far ahead of Fog it’s not funny.

I’m holding out a bit of hope that Fog’s control will be a good thing for our game plan but I don’t think that’s a fait accompli like Many suggest.

Fingers crossed.
