Jamal Fogarty

Thanks for the info, as always.

Do you have any insight whether the focus in forward recruitment/development is on mobility?

I can only answer insofar as [to] what has come across our table from certain player managers and the enquiries made by all Clubs, however, the Club is looking at candidates fitting a more mobile, robust forward and at the same time reviewing the MWSE NSW Cup Squad with a view to building that squad for depth as well.

One other comment regarding recruitment; the news that the Perth B**** (I can not bring myself to type their name) will be participating from 2027 is causing a "realignment" in the thoughts of many players coming off contract in that year or even those in the final year of their 2026 contract, to wait and see who the coach will be (we can all guess who that will be) and make some subtle enquiries about playing over in Perth.

The PNG bid did not have the same affect when it was announced and I understand why.

The PNG "leadership team" are going to find it tough to attract the quality of player they'll need to be competitive in their formative years.

Irrespective of the "tax free" employment income incentive, there are areas in which younger players fear, as do their families.

I don't think it will ever sit with me that he was better than toovey or hasler, for the main reason being they were in every game, always trying win lose or draw, and were guns in their own right.
Nothing needs to be said about toovey, and hasler was the guy to always spark something. Vautin said as much in his book whenever manly were down he'd tell des , mate, we need something from you here, and would always make full/half breaks triggering something, and neither shirked the defensive side.

Hasler was unlucky in reps, would always make city teams and did play origins and for aust, but was up against mortimer/sterlo and young bloke named Alexander. Still did well to earn his spot at times ahead of these players.

Toovey played in the era of alfy, Stuart and john's and still was a prominent fixture in rep footy, moving him to hooker at times cause he just had to be in the team

Dce has earnt his reps honours also, in saying that I feel it more so happened when the great players retired and he and Ben hunt were the last men standing.

I'd easily put him above Orford, I thought he was a little underwhelming for most of his time at manly.
My top 5 manly half backs,

1. Hasler
2. Tooves
3. DCE
4. Blake
5. Orford
6-10 Gibbs, Martin, Mayes, Junee, Thompson

Is that you coach Seibold

Real info is hard to find @ManlyTragic We should be grateful that @AndWeDon'tCare is prepared to share some "limited" info with us at Silvertails. I would suggest that trawling his past posts would give you an indication as to what he does in the wonderful world of Rugba League, and how that gives him access to that info. I am sure that he has a lot more to tell, BUT most of the information he deals with is commercial in confidence, until it is finalised and enters the public domain. Reading between the lines also works sometimes @ ...... alternatively, we could continue to accept the ravings of @BOZO et al, as real MWSE inside info.

Funny how when Manly recruits a player the media write he’s been poached, yet when Bulldogs or Roosters sign players they’ve been recruited Lolol.

Not true that is selective viewing here is an article from just last week

Dragons blow as Bulldogs poach boom youngster Finau Latu

The Bulldogs have pulled off an almighty poaching raid on St George Illawarra to seal the signature of one of the most highly rated young forwards in the land.

Good business. Didn’t overpay.
Seems like a solid guy off the field as well.

Bonus points that he didn’t go on 60 minutes to announce it…

Interesting comments by Paul Crawley on NRL360 regarding Fogarty signing for 3 years to Manly.

The Canberra CFO Furner and Stuart are long term and cannot afford to screw up their salary cap in 3 years by signing Fogarty for one year too long. He said Canberra were smart in only offering a 2 year deal, as they have juniors coming.

Who knows what will be going on at Manly in 3 years. 😂

So very true, Mestrov and Spoony taking a very short term view on the salary cap as they probably won't be there in 3 years.

Crawley said is Fogarty and Brooks going to win Manly a premiership?

Fccuk me.

Yes, DCE certainly has the edge in terms of longevity.

Not just longevity more being a one position player.

Who remembers Des playing fullback for Manly? Or playing numerous times on the Wing for Australia.

For the record Des started at lock in 51 matches

Toovey started at 6 in 47 matches.

Nrl360 are Ricky’s personal cheer squad. He has them hoodwinked just like he has the raiders. Aren’t he and the CEO down there best mates?

I’m not really fussed that DCE only played half. I think Dessie’s versatility makes him a better all round player. If I had to pick one to play half in a match for your life, I’d go Dessie every time.
