Both Large and Walsh are signed for seasons 25,26 and 27.
I hope if those two are the goods then we get them signed up to longer deals and have a plan A,B and C unlike with DCE's non negotiations where there only seemed to be a plan A

I’ve noticed a few people worried this length of deal could possibly block Large’s path to 1st grade, all I can say is don’t be. Large has 0 chance being a halfback in his first few seasons. For those that haven’t seen him I’d compare him more as a Fletcher Sharpe type player rather than a young half like Katoa. Won’t be surprised to see him play a few games at centre over the next couple years before transitioning to 5/8 full time when Brooks leaves.

I can see the concerns with Walsh being stuck behind Fogarty but then again if he is knocking the front door down I’d except Fogarty is encouraged to leave a year early & take up a multi year retirement pay day in England

I can’t wait until this season is finished , any joy I used to get has been completely sucked out now.

Incredibly gifted individual player. No one doubts this. His effect on morale (or not ) I'll leave for another conversation,
But the one thing that is hard to refute is his absolute inability since he signed the mega deal to dominate and manage a game against elite opposition when it really mattered.

I remember vividly being at the Covid final v Souths ( which Tom played ) at Suncorp and leaving thinking this guy will never take us to the promised land. Under pressure, against elite opposition, in matches thst really count he just does not have it. That is why , amongst most observers of the game , he will be remembered as a very good player but not a great one, despite his longevity and representative games.

Nothing I've seen over the last decade has ever led me to think i'm wrong. None of the truly elite halfbacks have panic football in their DNA - with DCE he is defined by incredible individual brilliance,brain fades and a proven record of never really managing a game that matters under pressure.Regardless of the players around him great players maintain their cool even in defeat. He doesn't.

In any case he is gone , comparing him to anyone is simply futile re the future.
Great contributor to a once great club but will never be spoken of in terms of our legendary Eagle greats , all of whom had that steel that defines greatness.

The apparent circus didnt seem to stop Haumole, Taniela, Lehi, Saab, Kola etc signing on for extended periods. Some promising kids signed too. If the club and a captain don't see eye to eye, so be it.

Can we name another player who thought he was an exclusive and went on TV to announce he will retire or play for any club but their current club.

Dopey DCE was caught hook line and sinker for a journo to get his own exclusive and ratings to watch a car crash.

He could have just let it play out like other players do, or have both he and the club do a press conference to announce their separation at the end of the year, but DCE didnt tell them and announced it on ch9 instead, but his explanation had holes in it which raised more questions.

Me thinks DCE wanted to paint a villain, and that wasn't going to be him. The ch9 gig was to get people onside with him with his decision. Oh how sweet of him was it to announce it on ch9 so manly could plan for their future without him, instead of knocking on the door and telling them directly.

To the main, that ch9 gig has backfired on him... significantly

so i think dopey DCE is about as far from reality as possible. out of all the NRL players past and present this guy is a pure operator. nothing he has or will ever do was for anyone but himself.
