Their offer is already matching ours on money $700k for 2 years..our trump is its for 3..

It's the only reason Jamal is even considering it now.

And I think you will find the raiders did have an option to keep him and extend for 2026..but it was probably ratchet clauses up on big $$$ 800k +.. they thought it was too much and he wouldn't be getting that sort of money on the open market..they thought maybe $600 and they would then match that..keeping Jamal there and at the same time saving some cash...hedged their bets thinking we let the deadline pass and see what offers Jamal gets.. thinking because of his age most clubs would maybe go in at around $600k and possibly 2 years..which they would match..

And this is exactly what the Raiders are now doing..matching offers.. it's backfired on them a little, but they know all they have to do is match other offers and he stays.

It's only because we've lost DCE that we have had to go in harder, further complicating things for the Raiders.. it's why Ricky has been carrying on for the last 2 weeks.

They probably didn't want to pay $800k for 1 season.. now they will end up paying 1.4 mill for 2.

Yes all good still same re the Futures etc ,a bit more volatility now with Trumpy and his tariffs and various global wars etc .

I agree with your summation .DCE is playing well but the craftiest coach ever, old Wayne Bennett always let his top players go a year or 2 early ,as age does catch up with rugby league players and he avoided getting saddled with with big pay days for an ageing star who may not see out the contract. Also you could do worse than Jamal ,he is not as hot as DCE ,but from what I have seen he is not as cold either when the chips are down, and has a very good kicking game .
He would suffice untill Walsh at least is ready

So I think we should look to the future and if its Jamal (not that we are any certainty of getting him ) for a year or 2 I think that would then enable us to get a topline FR which we really need .
I think Simpkins at 9 shows some promise to be honest ,but there is probaly 3 forward positions we could improve on 9,FR,SR

No disrespect but what rock have you been under?…dce is not hot or a consistently good half he has been 1 of the major nails in our coffin for the last 10yrs…he is overrated overpayed and overplayed…he has failed simple as that no excuses..Tom Jake and Dce and most of all penn have all failed when it comes to bringing a premiership home…titles talk bull**** walks as they say

I'd be happy if we get him but I really hope the rest of our cap management allows for the recruitment of a couple of very good forwards too.

If any two out of the three of Zaidas, Large, or Walsh are pushing into First Grade next year then all we need is a good prop and a good second rower and we can challenge for the top 4.

$700k for Jamal seems like a good deal compared to the amount of money we threw at Schuster! Hindsight is a wonderful thing.... but to those who are saying he's not worth $700k..... what on EARTH do you think the alternative is? Even if we promote a junior (Walsh et al) to the role, THEY will want $600k immediately or they will get it elsewhere... because NO half gets paid less than that!
