Jamal Fogarty

Just give Lehi a run at 6 with brooks at 7 while Dalys away on origin duty, see how he goes, Talau should be back and can cover for Tolu who moves to 1, if Clayton’s playing well he stays on the wing or we can give Narven a shot, unless Toms back, has to be worth a go, if it worked out and I think we would be pleasantly surprised, just like Lehi has taken to FB, we’d have a good chunk of cash to add some value to our pack.

No way Tom moves to 6, he plays FB or at best or moves into the centres, but how long before his gone again, I think it’s time to build a side that doesn’t centre around Tom, if his fit, his best bet is to play as a roving centre.

We don’t really need to pop dollars on Fogarty, brooks can kick us down town and I wouldn’t be one bit surprised to see Lehi switch on with a good short kicking game, has to be worth a shot and there’s a genuine opportunity to try it out before moving to sign Fogarty, if the Raiders don’t take up the option, wait till we give Lehi a shot during origin, if it looks like a sh1t show, move on Fogarty or who ever you like, just give it a go.

People very much seem to be underrating him, and the role he will play at Manly. He's not coming to be DCE. He's here to be a cool head, here to help the youngsters, use his strong kicking game, and let Turbo/Brooks/Hopoate play instinctively.

Fogarty, if anything, might be trying too hard to be a more dominant instinctive halfback at the Raiders, given he has a largely inexperienced Ethan Strange as his halves parter. Alongside someone as dynamic on his day as Brooks, he will likely be more consistent.

I'm happy that we're only trying to sign him for what he is, a consistent game manager, and nothing more. It's the inverse strategy to when we signed Brooks. With him, it was play your natural running game. Let DCE/Turbo/Now Hoppa be the game manager. With Fogarty, it's; play your natural organising game, let Brooks/Turbo/Hoppa/Ola be the x-factor.

I feel like Brooks would do better alongside a Fogarty, given DCE himself is a eyes-up risk-generator. Alongside a reliable game managing half, which by some stupidity they never signed to partner Brooks across 10 seasons at the Tigers, I think he'll have his best two seasons in the NRL.

This is the best comment I've read on the Fogarty subject. Underrated, calm, organised, a good defender with one of the best kicking games. Also kicks goals. Our backline would thrive under him and our defence would possibly improve as well (sorry DCE).

Wishful thinking that Brooks never had any competent half partners to make him shine
IMO Bright stars have the ability to shine on their own
Brooks was a discounted half for good reason

These are the Partners that Brooks had at the Tigers
2013 Benji Marshall

In this same period, DCE partnered internationals in Foran, D.Walker, as well as Blake Green, and didn't get Manly much closer to a title than Brooks did at the worst team in the comp

Bit more of a demanding role defensively for Lehi as a 6 but has seemed quite reliable at one or on the wing so most likely well within his capability playing as a 6 .
Natural ball player and good attacking instincts and ability so definitely no problem there .
Kicking wise , not so sure but plenty of other players who have made the transition well to 6 with a similar skill set .
Then the generally accepted likelihood of retaining Talau in a backline setting which should be quite a positive outcome .
Obviously just the factor then of having Turbo available for the majority of games in 26 and whatever time after that for the option of Lehi at 6 .
Just have the expectation that the Raiders would be inclined to retain Fogarty for a while yet and could be the case that Brooks would prefer to stay as a 6 but if circumstances require otherwise , looks like a bit of flexibility will just have to be in the equation

Benji Marshall wasn't there in 2014, and didn't play in 2013 alongside Brooks. People say he developed... But could he game manage that well in his later years? They never made the finals with him in that organising position, and he's literally the definition of "eyes-up player", just like DCE. Bennett signed him in his final year as an x-factor off the bench. Not like Fogarty in the slightest.

For that time, Brooks was alongside Blake Austin, and then Moses.

Mitchell Moses was quite poor to begin with, and they weren't playing him as an organiser, they were playing him as a running 5/8. It was only after a couple of years at the Eels that he started truly firing as an organising halfback.

Josh Reynolds, Moses Mbye, Jackson Hastings, and Doueihi are not first grade standard halves, or weren't then.

I think you’re being a bit tough on him. While I agree his passing game isn’t great, he has an “ok” running game and one of the better long kicking games in the NRL. The Raiders tend to win more when he’s on the park.

I’m not jumping up and down about the signing but for the right price, he could complement our team. Especially if we can add a quality forward too.
I think he’s overrated. At 31, he has still not played 100 FG games.

smart post and definitely what the club would be thinking Geyer doing and/or getting.

My only concern is that it’s best case scenario. The unknown is scary and there’s a possibility we’ll say goodbye to one of the games best halves and pay overs for one of the game’s most no frills. If he’s cheap and we snag a good forward with the left over funds, great. If he’s expensive, we’ve lost everything and gained very little.
