Jake Trbojevic... take a bow

Jake has served us well at lock, however he is a liability now. We need an agile and fast lock and Jake needs to go into the front row.

Our weaknesses remain our 9. This is now a major problem and loyalty and sentiment are one thing but reality is that we do not control the ruck and it is telling now!

He'd get his ass handed too him if he was to play prop full time, couldn't bust an NRLW line let alone NRL.

Someone else on here said this before, but the career of Josh Jackson is eerily similar. Carried the Dogs pack for many years until he couldn’t, and the end came quicker than expected.

I’ll never complain about Jake and will always love seeing him in our colours. He’s easily one of my all time favourite players but he is not playing to his salary unfortunately, and I can’t see how he will get back there.

Unfortunately somethings got to give with Jake.
But what? That’s the $950,000 dollar question.
If he wasn’t the most likeable bloke in the NRL, Siebs might’ve cut his match time down, or demanded he bring back the offload. But he might end up looking like Tappo-oo (without the corn rows).
I wouldn’t want to be in Seibs position. He's fked if he does something drastic, and fked if he doesn’t.
One thing is for sure, we can’t afford to have him playing like he is for another two years.

Jake Trbojevic has never been a metre eating type of forward. Occasionally he used to come out with a game or two where he'd clock up 150 or so running metres, but they have largely become rare over the past 2-3 seasons. As such he plays as a ball playing lock, and the issue there is that he's slow and the only ball playing he does is catch and pass. The offload he once had in his game is all but gone now.

One of his biggest plusses has always been his 80 minute motor. He still has that, the problem is the older he gets (remember, he's 30 now), the slower he gets. Can we afford to carry that in the forwards for 80 minutes every week??

His biggest asset of all has always been his dominating tackles. The problem is that when they brought in set restarts, they all but killed off the dominant tackle because of the need to get off players quickly without giving away a 6 again. Jake often gets ruck infringement calls for not getting off the tackled player quickly enough.

Jake Trbojevic is I'm sad to say, a plodder and unfortunately these days for all of his "nicest guy in the game" reputation ... on the field he is more and more becoming a liability than he is an asset.

And his salary is going to take almost $2million over the next 2 years.

Wouldn't of got that sort of money without Tom, it was a good deal then, but right now it feels like Jakey's got his hand in the Manly till with no one watching.

I honestly hate the fact that we're here ragging on Jake ... Jake of all people.

BUT......the reality is that he can be more liability than asset these days.

Look, if everything was up to me, this is how I would have things:
  • Jake would be moved to the front row rotation and only get about 50 to 60 minutes per game.
  • I'd move Croker to be a ball playing lock. He doesn't need to be a runner, a yardage gainer. He just has to be that extra ball playing and kicking option. He has the skills to do it. And we know his defence can take it.
  • And to that end I'd bring up Simpkin to be the dummy half.

But 100% guaranteed that won't happen.

Points 1 and 3 completely agree with

2? I’d jettison croker with extreme prejudice. I’ve never been a fan and actively despise watching him play every week. Way too limited, no more chances, no more shoehorning him into the side no matter the position.

How do we know his salary? The NRL keeps things like this a secret.
But, for the first time in his long and distinguished career Jurbo was ineffective today. There is absolutely no point him running the ball, and he gives away a lot of six-agains. I love the guy but his best days are behind him, sadly.

Can you imagine the media headlines if he dropped or tried to move on the incumbent State of Origin winning captain who is a local junior? He would need to hire an entire PR department.

If he is so important to SOO why did McGuire not play him much, offers ZERO, HE SHOULD BE HANDING BACK IS SALARY TOO.

Just happens sometimes , contracts deemed at the tine appropriate and the respective player in the ball park range value wise .
Then for whatever reason and the back end stage , a bit hard to justify the contract amount at least on playing level performance .
Again , Jake is hardly the exception here

Absolutely agree.

Before we played yesterday, I thought we had a genuine chance to go deep into the semis, but after watching Jake and Crocker yesterday, now I have big doubts.

Other teams have genuine locks that not only are good at racking up meters, but they can also dig into the line, ball play, and are mobile such as
Isaiah Yo
Cameron Murray
Patrick Carrigan etc

Jake struggles to have an impact with the ball, but now his biggest strength which was his motor and ruck defence, is becoming a liability

He needs to be subbed as he isn't mobile or fit enough to play 80 mins. Someone like Walker would have been ideal to come on off the bench, or a player like Connor Watson

On their day, when the big props get Manly on the front foot, its not as a big deal, as if you can control the field position and ball, the middles are not as exposed.

But playing against an upbeat opposition that get on a roll, our ruck quickly becomes exposed and the outside backs then are there for the picking.
