Jake Trbojevic offers nothing in attack

Manly lose more games when Jake in not on the park than when Tom isn't. Mind boggling that some people can't see our middle third open up so dramatically the second he goes off

We actually do see that. Often during games I've pointed out how soft our middle defence becomes when Jake isn't on the field. Even though he is the worst in the NRL for ruck infringements (6 agains), our middle defence is always better with him on the field than it is when he's not there.

His defence isn't in question. For almost a decade his tackle efficiency has been up around 96%. I seriously doubt any forward in the NRL can match that over a similar time period, especially considering the amount of minutes he plays each game.

Its what he offers in attack, or doesn't offer much of anymore, that is in question.

Seibs needs to give him the licence to offload again, assuming the instinct hasn't been coached out of by successive coaches.

Certainly needs to bring back the offload into his game. No question, he must evolve as the body slows.

But still an astute link man. I think with guys like Chez, Brooks, and Turbo, we really don't need anything flashy from our 13. Definitely need more punch, and I think reducing his minutes will also help in this regard.

But as @Disco has just pointed out, his value is also earned in off-the-ball effort.

Finally, our attack is not the problem. At any rate, an incisive 9, a steadier hand from our 7, and better yardage from our back 3, would all be a lot more important in improving our attack than Jake's agility with ball in hand. Defence defence, oh defence! This is our achilles heel - so, Jake is first picked.

TBH I'd love to see his offload come back. We only saw it 4 times last year.....down from a peak of 23 in 2017.
With those statistics on Jake the decline in his running and offloading game aligns with the second coming of Des being the head coach.

I wonder if the offloading was coached out of him along with the implementation of the get to your hands and knees for a quick play the ball, teams of the past that had Api and Manase who could take full advantage of that quick play the ball.

It has annoyed me that he ever put it away… Jake had a really reliable offload early doors…

Other annoyances… Frog hardly ever nails a 40-20 (rarely attempts them) despite being well capable and Waddell never uses his grubber when he does play and he has a really good one…

Oh, and 2 passes off a penalty tap to a forward who then gets tackled at the same point as the tap was taken… that is like A-levels annoyance…

God I am grumpy today, might have a beer and cheer up…

Disco's post made the very good point that Jake does a lot off the ball that doesn't make it into stats as easily. I want him in the side, but for $600k and 50 mins a match.

What we want and what we get are two different things. Jake won't be taking a pay cut. And even if he did, the nrl won't allow it

Tom tried to take a pay cut and the NRL nixed it…

These boys are the lifeblood of this club imo… if you want a good culture at your club then it starts with blokes like the turbos… clean living, genuine blokes and willing to give back to their community… even better they are bloody good footballers…

All the 'experts' plus Seibold plus you lot:

Manly's attack is brilliant.

Manly need to improve their defence to really compete for the premiership.

You lot:

Let's get rid of our best defender to improve our attack.

Oh ffs. Seriously?

Jake is technically still a very handy player especially in defence. In the open market I would estimate he would be lucky to attract $400k plus as season. Some would argue this is too much…he is currently on $800k a season from what I understand. Other clubs don’t pay this kind of money for marquee defenders…

It’s not about getting rid of Jake, never has been, we all know what Jake brings, it’s the contract value and the cost to the overall squad, it’s Marque money. Here’s the question I guess, are you happy with Jake on 950? Not Jakes fault by the way, good on him, I say, but it’s not so good for Manly and the balance of our squad, that’s what it’s about and it’s not just Jakes contract either.

All the other noise is relevant and open to debate, it’s already been said, stats don’t lie, stats aren’t everything, etc but one things for sure, the speed of the game is paramount, The Riff are proof of that and Melbourne have worked hard to produce something very similar, because that’s what it will take to prevail in Sept and that’s where Jake is alway going to struggle going forward, it won’t just be his struggle either, there are a few others in our pack that will find the going very tough.

There are plenty of NRL players being paid more than they are worth.
When Jurbo inked the contract it was commensurate with the value he brought to the team and the club.

He has that contract. Done and dusted. NRL would not let him take less, ask Tommy.

It is what it is.

If people want to question value for money as well as administrative twittery may I introduce you to ...
