Jake Trbojevic offers nothing in attack

Just looking at the physiques of the Broncos forwards compared to some of ours. They are deadset ripped. Event Marty Taupau looks in great shape Can't say the same of some of the Manly forwards so far.
Fair but lets see how they travel this year before we make a call either way

I am with you there, though having watched Jake I think with his hit ups his first thought is a quick play the ball and he doesn’t run with the intent to break the line or even look for an offload.
That's what I think too, and I'd love to see it change. We don't even have a good enough hooker to take advantage of it lol.

Would very much like to see his offload return, as that's one thing a plodder will never lose. Run metres, PCM's, etc, they all wear down over time. As long as they're a big body, they'll be able to offload.

Are we actually paying Jake $1M for '25 and '26 ($2M) or are you rounding up? I don't disagree with you, I'm just worried you're not exaggerating.
Yep that's off the players salaries list that was released last year. Jake would rank down about 13th in lock stats which would be a salary of $300-$400 K. Just kills us from being able to recruit a Murray, McInnes, Carrigan, Yeo, Radley type lock. Jake getting paid more than any of them except Cam Murray whose on $1m but his stats deserve it.

Oh dear , I just looked at Jake's stats in attack and defence for last few years compared to Isaah Yeo. I won't post them here it's too embarrassing. Pretty sure Isaah isn't on too much more $$ than Jake.
Yeo also plays in a team that aren’t filled up with plodders so he is able to take advantage of quick play the balls which helps I suppose

When you look at Yeo's stats he deadset should be the highest paid player apart from Cleary. Without Yeo Penrith would not have 4 peated.
That’s also true but he gets a lot of help from his fellow forwards who are not plodders who all run hard every run and tackle hard for 80 minutes

Love Jakie, but he offers nothing on the field outside of Great Defence.

And even that isn't as effective as it used to be because of the 6 again rule. Jake led the league in ruck infringements last year with 19 largely because in the opinion of the refs he takes too long to get off the tackled player.

Jake had a down year last year, he is yet to take the field this year.

How about we wait for him to do so before we all start bemoaning him.
Fair call. We all like Jake but geez he's got some major deficiencies that need instant rectification if we're to compete for top 4. We can't continue to carry him just because of his surname. Zero tackle website didn't have him in their top 10 locks for 2024.

Get your point, but it's not really fair comparing any other backrower/lock to Isaah Yeo. He's an absolute phenomenon, one of the best forwards I've seen in many years. And then he's got Liam Martin playing beside him. They're like supercharged versions of Gifty and Choc Watmough. Sigh.

Be honest here mate. If another forward we had put up the same numbers ... we'd be calling for them to be dropped to NSW Cup or gotten rid of all together.

The only reason he gets a free pass is because he's Jake Trbojevic.

As I said yesterday, unfortunately his level of play plateaued 5 years ago. And for that we're paying what basically amounts to $1 million per season.

I think the argument is more about how much we're paying him for what he's returning. No one expects him to be another Yeo but in order to win premierships you can be paying $1m to a player whose giving you about half that in statistics.

As stated Jake had a down year but he is still quite an important cog on our team, obviously in defense but also attack.

Jake is the ultimate team man, and he does a lot of the muck work to make others look good. He was towards the top of the league for push support plays and decoy runs. The means he is putting in the effort and using up his gas to free up space for others. He is often used in attack as a link man which again is not conducive to stats and if you watch closely often his runs are to get us in position on the field, quick play the ball than a attacking movement.

The guy puts the team ahead of himself.

He has done for a decade, and his reward, fans having a crack.

I reckon if you went and talked to any coach, player or anyone clisely associated to the NRL and suggested Jake should be dropped to NSW cup the would laugh you out of the room.

No offence but if you go back and look at Jake's stats he's had a down year just about every year since 2018. About the only things that remain constant are his tackling efficiency which is always up around 96%, his play the ball speed (last years average was 3.05 seconds), and his minutes.

Run metres, post contact metres, offloads ... all have been on such a downward trajectory that they are literally half or even less than half of what he was producing 5, 6, 7 years ago.

If those numbers were anyone but Jake's ... said player would be the forum's forwards whipping boy.

I'm not talking statistical regression I'm talking a year where his performance was lower then what he would like.

If your argument is he has been 'poor' since 2018 then I'm not sure tjis is a chat worth engaging in.

A game of footy is not played on a spreadsheet btw.

I'm not arguing there. But other than his defence and leadership qualities, what exactly does he offer as a player? As a lock he's not even in the same universe as the current standard bearer Yeo, and as a front rower these days he simply lacks punch in his runs.

This thread's title is Jake Trbojevic Offers Nothing in Attack......I hate to say it but the title is pretty much spot on.
