His average run metres per game over the same period has also dropped from a peak of 134 and 135 in 2017 and 2018, down to just 72 per game last year. And that itself was a 24 metre drop per game just from 2023.

Jake is honestly more there for his leadership than for his current level of gameplay. That much was evident in Origin last year.

Yea but to rely on leadership is not good enough. No player needs that if they are there to do a job. First grade footballers getting paid dollars to rely on leadership today needs reassessing. We already have a captain for that.

How about Waddell on a 3 year deal. Brown on a multi year deal. Lodge on any deal after refusing our contract and being caught red faced etc. acquiring Tevaga and losing Lawton (when Humphreys could have that spot). Aloiai an extension.

Sure, he's getting slower, but perhaps that's from all the covering defence he's done for years!

Oh dear , I just looked at Jake's stats in attack and defence for last few years compared to Isaah Yeo. I won't post them here it's too embarrassing. Pretty sure Isaah isn't on too much more $$ than Jake.

I was thinking the same even before I posted my last two comments. Not so much comparing stats but mainly being the fact that they are two different players and results can vary. It’s just a thought. Last thing I want is out team to be playing a 70’s game in todays times.

It's horrible reading to compare the 2. Plus Jake salary is $1m Isaah is $850K.

Let’s see how we go this year. I’m thinking pretty much the same. I hope we do better. Would love to see us back on top after so long. We did better last year than I thought we would. I knew early on that we would not make the GF but did not expect to finish as good as we did.

Yep its a pretty sad situation re Jake, 1 mil for a tackle bot that concedes too many penalties and 6 agains trying to slow the speed of the game down for both him and the rest of his lumbering pack (Quac and maybe Tent aside) its not the recipe to deliver us from our Nirvana.

And transitioning to prop just seems further from reality, can’t see Jake bringing us any joy up front, a mil buys just about any premium prop in the game. Jake I love him, but I also feel the game has moved away from him. If we can’t field a mobile pack that can up their tempo and play with line speed and aggression, I can’t see us ending our drought anytime soon.

Jake was part of the package deal with Tommy. Was a good deal back then. The long term deal for Tom is great, but Jake's, not so great.

Frankly.....2019 aside its not even close.....while Jake's stats continue to head downward, Yeo's are getting better by the year.

I'm just not sure where you play him. He's not got the post contact meters in him to be an impact bench middle. He's not got the work rate stats in attack and defence that a lock should have. He's too slow to be an edge. He's on $1mil for 2025 and same for 2026. They need to tap him on the shoulder.

He has an offload, can bend the line, the link in attack and a solid defender, Cleary injured a bit of late and Panthers still win games, however it would be interesting to see how they would go without him.

Jakey, the game is at a hectic speed now, he doesn’t have the leg speed for sure but he does a fair bit off the ball that statistically you won’t read, for me to get the best out of Jake play him 50-60 minutes and let him run the ball with intent to break the line.

The problem is he's not breaking the line when he hits it. Last year he made a grand total of 4 line breaks.

4 ... in 24 games. And just 10 in the past 3 years.

Then there are his offloads. He made 7 in 2020. He's had a grand total of 7 in the 4 years since then.

About the only stat of Jakes that isn't on a continuous downward trajectory is his tackle efficiency which always hovers around 96%.

I am with you there, though having watched Jake I think with his hit ups his first thought is a quick play the ball and he doesn’t run with the intent to break the line or even look for an offload.

Are we actually paying Jake $1M for '25 and '26 ($2M) or are you rounding up? I don't disagree with you, I'm just worried you're not exaggerating.
