Jackson Hastings

I don't usually watch a replay of the game, but thought I would for the Souths game so I could pick my MVP points a bit more objectively, rather than in the heat of the moment. You certainly get a different view watching it without the adrenaline pumping.

Anyway, one of things I picked up on second time around was Jackson Hastings involvement for Uate's last try. His game sense to not only put himself in a position to take the two offloads, but then get the ball to where it needed to be, showed what great football instincts he has.

From all reports he loves it at Manly, so if we can keep him happy and his head straight, I think we've picked up a quality ball player.

I find him to be smooth in all he does.
A great asset in a young guy.
I played baseball with an ex- marine and told me how they were taught that slow is smooth and smooth is fast. Basically unless you can do something slowly and smoothly you won't have success doing it fast.

yep but like any young fella with talent, he will only bide his time for so long. If he can demonstrate an improvement in his attidude (the reason why no other club wanted a bar of him before us) you can bet that he will get a 6/7 slot somewhere else in the NRL and make min 400k. So, the power brokers at Manly need to make a decision on him very soon to demonstrate we see him as a long term half.
Meaning, Blake Green's contract should not be extended beyond end of next year if we are serious about keeping Hastings. OR he continues to improve as a hooker and then Api's tenure needs to be decided. Would love to see him and DCE have a game together in the halves.

Green strikes me as a good experienced head to have around the club, but take you're point with Hastings. No reason why Green and Hastings couldn't swap roles in the next 12 months or so.

Newcastle want a half desperately and I'd be stunned if they hadn't discussed Hastings as an option. He has obvious talent and wouldn't cost a huge amount. I really hope he stays with us long term.

imo the team needs to put him in the starting 13 next year or hes gone... he wont re-sign if other clubs are offering him a starting 6/7/9 gig and manly are playing him off the bench still....

ide be playing him and dce in the halves, green is solid but you dont play a 30+ year old "solid" player at the expense of alienating a gun 20 year old...

(all this is with the provision his attitude is in the right spot mind you.... if he shows the right attitude this season, he has to be a starter next year)

The best thing is that when he was at the Roosters his biggest issue was his ego but they did us a favour there by punting him, forcing him to reflect and focus more on his character and being grateful. Now we get the benefits 😀

He's still so young, he may prove his attitude adjustment and new found grounding by learning as much as he can from green while he's still with us. A bit like Todd Carney soaking up the experience of Jason Smith during his twilight years at the Raiders.
I think letting go of a half to Newcastle already (Nicho Hynes), they should be aiming for a Blake green type rather than another young gun for the halves so we may be safe from the knights..
We are so lucky we picked him up, very handy future halves pairing. Him and Chez will unavoidably get some game time together this year. It's bound to happen, should be a nice preview!

I think he was thrown in the deep end too soon at the Roosters (particularly when Pearce wasn't around and he was responsible for their whole attack), so he may just be quite comfortable biding his time for longer than most would think.

As I said when we signed this boy he has the X factor and very few players have it. I hope TB can tap that potential and keep him at Brooke!
