Is the game too fast?

Might sound strange but I think our (or others) games haven’t seemed as dominated by 6 agains. Last year it seemed way worse.
Probably because we were being well flogged without them this season. Wait till we play the dogs.....

How dare any of you great unwashed disagree with the all powerful v'landy!

He knows more that you. Just ask the race horses he was in charge of.

Australian Rugby League Commission boss Peter V’landys believes the game’s new rules are not a factor in an alarming early-season injury crisis, but players are convinced the hectic pace of the NRL this year is contributing to the carnage and have called for the introduction of a concussion substitute.

- Of course the answer of "throwing more places open for more players" reeks of a WW1 general just throwing more cannon fodder into the path of machine guns.

They should bring back the scrums they have taken away. Lining up against 13 in a line is no bonus to the non offending team. In fact it's the other way round. Kick to touch. Set defence and go.

This may have been Des’ plan all along, keep his best player out until all the other sides have the same number of injured players as Manly do
There maybe some truth to that??
The facts r the teams with the less injuries has a greater chance of winning.Maybe he is smarter than what we give him credit for ?

Why don't we reintroduce the wrestle and slow the game back down in the ruck to minimum 6 seconds per tackle, then start a new thread complaining about the slowing down of play and silly copybook leg tackles

Given there aren't enough quality players to field 16 teams under these rules, then yes the game is too fast.

But don't worry, the NRL will fix this by adding new teams!

The NRL needs playing rules that tighten up games, not rules that widen the gap and make fans lose heart with their clubs and hopes and it isn't even yet Anzac Day.

Already 25% of NRL fans have given up on their club for the season. How is that clever NRL?

Next they will use this to say we must only have the fast #exciting teams on tv

Which is why the two conference idea would be great.

Top teams play each other , bottom teams play each other.

Bottom two of top drop out of finals and are in the bottom 8 the following year.

Top two of the bottom 8 go to the finals and are in the top 8 the following year.

The top 8 then play for the Premiership Trophy, the bottom 8 then play for the Premiership Cup.

Both finals played on GF Day.

Better more even games through the year , and most fans retain interest through the season and even into the finals.

Speed of the game is not the problem, I’m enjoying it, it’s good to watch, it’s the issue of the divide between the top tier teams and bottom, either even it up via introducing a draft type system and a 2 tier style competition.
By 2 tier I mean stay with the current 16 teams, i would like to see all teams play each other twice, I know 32 rounds is a bit much too ask of the the players, but as fan I’d like it and it’d be way fairer, anyway if not stay with 25 rounds and come the end of the regular season, top 8 as per normal, then the bottom 8 play as a reserve grade type feature to the main games, giving all fans and players a shot at a title, tier one premiers and tier two, then on top of introducing a draft system to even the playing talent and stop the cap rorts, increase tier 2 team caps to help them attract and even the playing talent, obviously needs a lot more thought but at least all teams are effectively in the comp all year, stronger crowds at the semis as 4 clubs supports would attend, game would prosper I think and all clubs and supporters have something to stay interested, it’s Rd 3 and already the Dogs, the Cows, the donkeys and us are gone, 6 of the eight are pretty well easily identified and that leaves 2 teams with a chance of playing for their shot at the end of the year. So while I like the speed of the game, it would be better if the whole season had purpose for all clubs and supporters, I know it starts that way but look what’s happening 4 teams are pretty much gone already, the comp is not well balanced, kudos to the clubs doing well, their level of professionalism is evident, but the game needs to bring all teams into consideration and those teams that are under performing ie the eagles need to lift there standards and improve their professionalism.

Not sure again if the increased tempo of the game is the main cause of Manly "s woes for some time now . ,Maybe if they could fix up some very lazy and ineffective defence and a high rate of unforced errors for a good portion of their games , the quicker pace of the games would be incidental and they would be able to cope and compete so much better . Really do not think that Manly are one of the slowest sides in the comp , just not getting the basics right and putting too much pressure on themselves , burning up a lot more juice and also admittedly , still some very average attack but that is another matter . Schuster and the return of Tom will help in that regard but still need more from established players

My post above yours suggests a system to support this.

The added benefit is that fans of the bottom teams don’t just give up, with the aim being to try and finish in the top 2 positions so you A) get a shot at the Premiership B) get elevated the following year.

Yer, I’m a bit slow mate, must of been writing my post before I saw yours, but there’s definitely something there to work with, I can see how the NRL can lift revenue and ratings from it too, lots of positives to work with, so I don’t see why they wouldn’t at least consider something along those lines, better for the game better for the fans, better for the players and clubs.
