Is Manly unfit or just Brainless

Tonight against Parra we were winning and let 4 tries in 20 minutes.

We let a similar number in the first round against Parra

We let 3 tries in the last 7 minutes against the cowgirls.

I am sure we have let too many tries in the last 20 minutes than I can remember.

Are we unfit or do we have an inability to concentrate for 80 minutes.

I feel it's both and it's something the coaching staff and Des need to fix.

Why can the Panthers, Melb, Roosters and now the Cowboys keep there defensive structures in tact to the 80th minute? Cowboys were terrible last year and the coach said they were unfit.

A few looked done early in the game, Guaca and Garrick played well below their normal standards.

For me it’s fitness and the X-factor in attack, Des is off the pace IMO with the modern style of the game, I don’t know if Des is the best option as head coach, I see Des as the manager of the football club, in a role similar to Gould.

Definitely need Des at the club but not in the role he is in at the moment.

Snake's Alive!
I was actually about to start a thread and propose that we go in a new direction next season in terms of strength and conditioning.

I always think you learn things about RL when you listen to people without prejudice, I.e. people who don’t follow the game and/or Manly but make observations. They always tell me Manly don’t play with any intensity. We don’t!

We’re never up and bouncing on the balls of our feet. Too many big, cumbersome forwards and a lack of line speed.

I think we should try for something new next year and play high energy. The wrestle is so 5 years ago.

Lots of things contribute that all add up.
Paseka played less than 20 mins and never came back, so that would contribute to fatigue with only one specialist prop on the bench.
Fatigue leads to errors both physically and mentally.
That's just one example.

Some silly errors, but a lot comes down to chemistry, holes in the team (injury) and talent. Imagine this team, and all in form, how would we have fared ?

01. Tom Trbojevic
02. Jason Saab
03. Dylan Walker
04. Tolu Koula
05. Reuben Garrick
06. Kieran Foran
07. Daly Cherry-Evans
08. Marty Taupau
09. Manase Fainu
10. Josh Aloiai
11. Haumole Olakau'atu
12. Josh Schuster
13. Jake Trbojevic

14. Karl Lawton
15. Taniela Paseka
16. Sean Keppie
17. Andrew Davey

18. Brad Parker 19. Christian Tuipulotu 20. Morgan Harper 21. Lachlan Croker 22. Toff Sipley 23. Kaeo Weekes

Bet we'd be top 2-3 (I mean, look at the depth players)

Personally we need to look at what the Cowboys have done.

Payton copped a lot of schiit last year and the Cowboys were unfit, so defensively they were poor.

He absolutely killed them in the pre-season playing and training harder than any match. He then said this will lead to match situations where you are not struggling to keep up as you already have been thru this pain before - in the pre season.

Nothing new, Bellamy has been doing it for 20+ years.

Des needs to get the players fit. If Schuster or anyone else is not fit enough - they don't play

But does Des have the drive to do this?.

Yeah he did for the last 3 or 4 minutes of the game. But basically was a waste of a player on the bench. He wasn't doing much the minutes he was on, so basically got hooked after the first stint.

Des and his use of the bench imo is a real problem.
He never seems to use the bench effectively and so many times has not even used one of the bench players with 15-20 minutes to go. Which frankly is not good enough.

Yep whatever Payton did in the off-season has been massive for the Cows, duplicate it and hopefully our number nine is proven innocent.

I see improvement only if attitudes change and commitment to the squad by all the playing group, fingers crossed Turbo has a full season.

Love Don Singe and everything he has done for the club but the game has gone past him now we need a new conditioning coach !!
Yes, does make you wonder.

Donnie has the CV but his role is more than just telling players how many pushups to do, he has been inspirational to past teams but I'd say he lost a lot of gloss if not respect with his vax stance and maybe his message is losing its impact these days. I don't think our squad is any less physically fit than others but the mental resilience seems lacking to me.

Almost impossible though to see Des letting Donnie go. Maybe Mestrov would have to pull rank.

Time for Donny to go in my opinion. Too many games this year we have **** the bed in the last 15 minutes through fatigue and poor decisions. That speaks to match fitness. The reality is, Des won't flick Donny, unfortunately.

Des is very loyal to his men. Only way Donny is leaving is if he resigns

If we improve our conditioning we score enough points to win games.
