Importance of FAST wingers

Gideon Gela-Mosby from the Cowboys can't seem to crack their first grade squad (off field issues may be a factor) but he is a quick winger that may be worth a look.

But yes, our wingers still won't score tries if our game plan is to only give it them for a hit-up nowhere near the opposition try line.

Did any of our wingers score a try this year from out-leaping their opposite? I can only remember one try from a bomb and that was Turbo late in the year. (Surely my memory is wrong on this but I’d love wingers with some ability in the air (at both ends of the field))

As a bonus, he could conduct bible readings. After all, he has an appropriate name.

That could go down very well with PM Scott, on the Brookvale funding front.

Kick retrieval is really important but most of the tries scored by wingers in the NRL are from ball-movement.

We could have the fastest wingers ever to play the game but they won't score 20 tries a year if they are not passed the ball, as it has been.

well with a proper 5/8 now there is more chance of the wingers getting some ball ,you would like to think

It’s funny but Parker scored two in the trial game vs sharks pre season. Both from cross field kicks.

I can’t help wondering if he played with bad leg injuries this year, or hadn’t recovered properly from last year’s knee?

He didn’t look capable of running 100m, covered in tape etc.

we would have scored 5 more tries on the wing if tommy t's cutout passes didn't keep getting incorrectly called back
then again we would have scored another 5 if he hadn't acually passed the ball forward another 5 times

Whilst you need big mobile bodies nothing and I mean nothing beats blistering pace on the wings and our current wingers don't have any. Additionally our wingers suffered from a lack of opportunity and had very little created for them by the centres this year who in turn rarely received early ball from DCE or Walker. Tommy should be running holes and only occasionally ball playing. We need a Maloney, Walker and Kelly in the centres and pace to burn on the wings. Tom Wright is a speedster and should be given a crack, he is floundering in reggies and he is not being developed.

Watching the good teams, makes you wonder about the speed and skill they have on the wings. I'm watching Vunivalu and Ado-Carr, then I think about our trove of wingers:

Brad Parker
Jorge Taufua
M. Wright
Akuila Uate

We are severely lacking. These positions are often game winning.

X Taking high kicks
X Defusing Bombs
X Important defensive reads
X Running around the oppos. out wide
X Long range tries

All elements we sorely lack.

This position is paramount for us. These games are convincing me that if we stick with Suli, he has a run in the forwards (not centre, or ESPECIALLY not wing). We need finishing.

Akuila has moved onto greener pastures.

Brad Parker...well, I won't make comment, and honestly, Taufua looks old, tired, unmotivated and done. He just doesn't have it. If he came onto the open market, I'm actually not sure he'd get another gig right now in Australia.

I'm now certain we need TWO fresh wingers to start. Plus a forward.

If you don't have fast wingers then they need to still be great finishers but safe as ****ing houses (ala Robbo - who's lack of speed was offset by Snake being the speedster). We have wingers who aren't fast and aren't safe which is the worst possible combo. Plus Tom isn't a burner fullback.

If he went himself he would have had 5 more tries too.

Plenty of times he passed the ball and finished up over the try line himself.
