Wikipedia says:

Australian Rugby League Hall of Fame honours players who have shown exceptional skill at rugby league, all-time great coaches and referees, and other major contributors to the game who are Australian. To date there are only thirty members of the hall of fame with the latest members being inducted in 2007.

It was officially established in 2002, to honour the many past greats of the game, who have played in the New South Wales/Sydney league competition, Australian rugby league competition, Super League competition and the National Rugby League.

The first batch of players were inducted to the hall of fame in 2002 including legends of the sport such as Reg Gasnier, Johnny Raper and Wally Lewis. In 2003 another six members were added to the elite club and yet another six were inducted in both 2004, 2005 and 2006. This continued with another six inductees in 2007: three from pre-1940 and three from post World War II.[1]

The problem with selecting Beaver as an Immortal against the likes of Meninga, Lockyer and Smith is that unfortunately Beaver never dominated at Origin and Test level like these guys did. And these days I don't think there will be an immortal chosen who didn't dominate at the highest representative levels. Beaver was, for the most part, an automatic selection for NSW but was often overlooked for test duty. Plus he rarely started and almost became like Des was in his rep career....a super sub.

He never captained his state. He never captained his country. That would probably count against him as well.

Beaver will be like so many others around the league who might be deserving of the honour. A club and league legend, but not an Immortal.

Well you just lost all your credibility.

Just because he didn't play for us, Harrigon was a very good forward, hence his history with NSW, his memorable clashes with Spud and so on.

He may have a laughable media career but football skill doesn't really depend on that.

Anyway since you can't play nice and argue a point without just being an asshole and playing a man, this thread has a very short lifespan
Harrigan was a gun. He played how many game though, scored how many tries? Beaver holds these records for forwards since the game started. Across all times across all teams. What makes an immortal forward then?

Beaver transitioned from a time when blokes were smoking in the changerooms, across the roid ridden nineties and into an age where gym fit giants reign. He is one of a kind. An immortal and it seems a fair few people on here agree with me.
