I'm ready to walk away from the game

Yeah in the nrl era we never have been on huge recruitment drives.
Kite, bk, killer, josh perry and ox. All over a period of 10 years we surrounded then with locals and emerging talent.
We spent big in 15 Marty and dylan walker.
I see the hurt with foz - but he does not want to be here, we did not even chase this time. He unfortunately like snake holds bad blood over gifty situation. We move on we will find someone.
We will benefit from the overspending i believe from dogs and roosters. We seem more stable than knights or tigers.

Walking away is what Greenturd wants you to do. If the Manly fan base diminishes the it will be easier to reduce the number of teams in Sydney.

I don't know how the rest of you guys feel about the NRL at present, but what has happened over the last week is a sad state of affairs. Bird to the Broncos, Foran to the Dogs, Woods to the Dogs, Moses to Parramatta, Evans to Parramatta, and Tedesco to the Roosters. The Tigers playing ranks completely decimated and the Knights miss out again.

The rich get richer and the poor get poorer and the NRL sit back and let it happen. Why won't they do something about it?
Burgess non shoulder charge too

@Snake it is not the obligation of the NRL to drag the rich clubs down to the level of poor clubs ...... it is the obligation of the poor clubs to lift themselves up to the top.

For the ones that want to leave the NRL . Don't forget to close the door behind you

Recruit well?
The mighty Dez finally has the team he's built himself after 5yrs as the coach and still has no apples. Woods and Foran reeks of desperation. Dogs will now offload $2m worth of talent to fit in Woods who's is one of the most overrated players in the Comp and Foz who is a ticking time bomb in Sydney. Clubs will be licking their lips to get some of the $2m in talent they will get rid of.

Parramatta....? Recruit well?.... Watmough, Foz, Sandow, not to mention half their team probably still have pending domestic assault charges. Salary cap breach.
Moses for 8/900 isn't good recruitment, it's terrible. He won't compliment Norman at all. And Kane Evans in my opinion is overrated.

We have $1.3m on the war chest ready to pounce. Made some excellent youth signings and also some "has beens" who had apparently lost it that are proving people wrong.

We're in a good position compared to both the clubs you mentioned.

The dogs wont get rid of anyone. They might cut Graham but that is doubtful. Plenty of brown paper bags in that way.

Parra I will agree with. There recruitment into the best. I'd take Gutho over Moses any day of the week. Moses is a flea and every time he gets hit I wonder if he will get back up.

Also, I don't think we have $1.3m to spend. I would suggest no more than maybe $800k. We have a lot of guys that will be on more money next year that will soak up a fair bit of Skivvy and Snakes cap space.

I reckon you're pretty spot on but don't forget the salary cap increase could rise by a possible million or more. I know most players have that increase factored into their contracts but it may still leave us with a tidy sum if someone good comes along.

I am beginning to think that those TPA (Third Party Agreements) are worse than having no salary cap at all. They are part of the problem for sure. Perhaps the game needs a player draft and a genuinely enforced cap with no TPAs.

For a while after the Northern Beagles folded Manly didn't exist and the Bunnies got the pick of the players before we got going. Our position now is much stronger than that so why the long face ? The only big signings we got back then were Jamie Lyon, Matt Orford and to a lesser extent Brent Kite and Steven Bell. The others developed here and nobody was doing cartwheels when they were signed.
Where are all the celebrities who were going to walk away from America when the Trumpster was elected as promised ? Wipe the dribble off your chin and get down to Brookie on Friday , grab a packet of stale red peanuts and a cold pie and bloody well fire up!!!! Response to the original Post not this one which I largely agree with
I'm going to Canberra first!!!

What disappoints me is the fact that club fan bases have to now deal with the fact that their star players have (allegedly) after game 7 of 26 of season 2017, decided to sign and play with opposition teams next year. And one of the players mentioned is a 2017 club captain. It happened to us with the halves signings and disrupted our club and upset supporters for some time.

I know that the NRL probably want the perception that players are professionals and can just clock on and clock off, but isn't it important for the fans to at least feel (maybe delude themselves) that their players have some passion for their colours?

And talking "professional", what business keeps key employees around who have just signed with the opposition?

Some rugby league journos love this type of thing as it gets readers/clicks, and for want of a better analogy, they remind me of an author excitedly writing an epic about an ocean liner sinking whilst sitting on a bunk in the lower level of the Titanic.

I understand it is hard for the NRL to regulate these things, but it would be nice for fans to continue passionately supporting their teams supported by NRL policies, not despite them.

Transfers should be done off season.

Snake, haven't you left already?

Ain't we paying you your salary but your spending your time building your restaurant.
I personally would have preferred that you at least spent your min 20 hours training the young guys, or going through video replays with them teaching them positional play. @;)

The strong teams are getting stronger while teams like the knights and tigers are getting weaker.

The NRL will soon be like first grade rugby with weekly scores of 70 nil being common

No point in having a salary cap to even out the distribution of talent if clubs are allowed unlimited TPA's.

teams like Brisbane, dogs, etc have a distinct advantage over teams like manly who have very few TPA's.

Time will tell. Already reading that Graham, Liccha, Hoppa, Kasiano, Eastwood are on the outer....

Last time I added $600k and $700k (which I read was their reported salaries) it equates to $1.3m. That $1.3m is included in this years cap without and players taking the field. That $1.3m will be available as of next year unless we get the early retirements approved by the NRL in which case it'll be available immediately.

That's why Silvertails is great. You have your opinion. I'll have mine.

I hope you are right as I think Graham would be a great pickup for our young forward pack. He is that hard nosed forward that would add a real edge to the team.

I understand that is their salaries, what I am suggesting is that as they were off contract next year the team may have already factored that in to existing contracts (such as the Turbos, Kapow, Walker etc) and back loaded them to make them easier to deal with now.

This is the issue with the NRL salary cap. As salary cap figures are not published like they are in almost every other sport in the world that has a salary cap it is impossible for the fans to know how much cap space a team has left.

I hope that you are right and we have $1.3m for next year, unfortunately I don't think it is as black and white as that.

The issue with the increase is that is looks like it wont be as much as expected. This could spell bad news for the club if they have overreached. I seriously doubt that is the case as it's my understanding that our biggest contract (DCE's) is a percentage of the cap rather than a set figure so if it does increase by a smaller margin his cap figure will continue to be manageable compared to others that have rises based on a larger expected salary cap figure
