If we are to go all the way in 2025 who is in our 17?

I love an opportunity for a YART

1. Turbo
2. Hopoate
3. Talau
4. Koula
5. Garrick
6. Brooks
7. DCE.
13. Navale
12. Patolo
11. Haumole
10. Jake Trb
9. Simpkin
8. Aloiai

Bench

14. Jazz T
15. Brown
16. Paseka
17. Bullemor

We have debated it to death, and I love Saab, but I had to leave someone out. I believe we need to have Talau in there for some toughness when returning the ball. Anyway, we know there will be injuries, so it's probably a revolving door between positions 1-5.

Paseka and Brown are off the bench for mine for impact. I think both get a bit diluted when they start (especially Brown). I'd rather have Jake and Aloiai there to absorb the early minutes.

The Navale and Patolo part of it is a punt, but we need fresh mobile blood. No point trotting out the same old Jake at 13 stuff.
Surely Taukeaho has to be in there - I'd have him before Oshay Olay

Mine...
  1. Turbo
  2. Saab
  3. Koula
  4. Hopoate
  5. Garrick
  6. Brooks
  7. DCE
  8. Jurbo
  9. Croker
  10. Paseka
  11. Guac
  12. Taukeiaho
  13. Burbo
  14. Talau
  15. Bullemor
  16. Tevaga
  17. Aloiai
Injury depth: Brown, Waddell, Patolo, Nevale, Tof, Simpkin, Arthur

In reality though the squad probs stays the same with Garrick at 4, Jake at 13 and musical chairs on the pine...

For Manly to go all the way a few big changes need to happen.

We need a 9 who controls the ruck and creates. That is a huge deficit we have right now.

Our current lock needs to play front row. We need more speed and creativity in our scrum base.

We must fix our right side defence which is a constant weakness and we do not have decisive defenders there.

We need to concede at least 6 points a game less to be any chance.

Looks like an interesting situation with both Patolo and Taukeiaho possibly coming into calculations in a game day 17 but looks like or understandably , coaching staff will just wait how things may progress and pan out , especially in the trials with injury and fitness issues .
But , just like in Brown 's situation with last season 's built up and preparation , sure to be given every opportunity to impress .
Not as much attention to Chee Kam who also may still have something worthwhile to offer .
Maybe not that much less then Waddell or conversely , all three may even have more to offer if things can work in their favor .
Also think interesting the option of looking at Taukeiaho as a possible 13 , used to be noted for his mobility , not bad foot work and work rate so guess and after the partial Brown success there , one never knows .
Certainly do not lack quite a few alternatives for all pack positions but key of course will be to get a composite grouping who can be quite competitive and to get a bit closer to that higher ranking level and performance and results wise

Agreed, PLUS Penrith & Melbourne would need to totally forget how to play the game the way they have been over the last few years!

Burbo, in time, will be an elite NRL edge forward. Has all the earmarks. Just needs more confidence and a little more aggro
Yeah , i think that Burbo can more then hold his own this season and hopefully can even be a bit more influential overall on an edge .
Can 't underestimate his ability to cover centre if the need arises in games but ideally on the lower scale

I think Penrith will go backwards a bit, Luai is a huge out for them and Blaize Talagi will take a while to reach Luai's level.

Melbourne will probably be just as good though. I just wish other teams would figure out how to get the job done against them, they won a lot of games last year that they really should have lost.

I think we're probably betting too highly on Patolo. Hasn't played all that much footy, and was only a second-rower as a junior. Played one game in NSW cup on the edge iirc. Burbo has been on a steady upwards trajectory overall, and seems to always have a good pre-season. I'm thinking

1. Turbo
2. Saab
3. Koula
4. Garrick - he will improve
5. Hopoate
6. Brooks
7. DCE
8. Paseka
9. Croker - he will have an off-season, won't be as bad as when he returned from injury
10. Jake
11. Olakau'atu
12. Burbo 3.0
13. Brown
14. Talau / Zaidas
15. Aloiai / Taukeiaho
16. Bullemor / Patolo
17. Tevaga / Navale

I'll be completely honest, our best 17's will look completely different by the time we reach the finals. There are pretty much seven or eight players, who are unknown quantities, who could brute force their way in. If Laiafi gets fitter, he could find himself a bench spot too. Wouldn't discount Chee Kam, Waddell, and Schoupp either. They are better than what people make out them to be on here.

It's worth noting that Seibs preferred Brown starting over Aloiai before Lodge returned. I don't think that will change, although Taukeiaho may act as Paseka's replacement for 30 minutes or so.

He has no ability to cover centre, ever.

Can't believe it took me this long to get involved in a YART thread ! We need to get faster all round. Here's what I would run out round one (nothing some favourites aren't there):

01. Tom Trbojevic (picks himself)
02. Jason Saab (best winger at the club)
03. Tolu Koula (needs an improved 2025)
04. Lehi Hopoate (has to be there)
05. Reuben Garrick (back to his best spot)
06. Like Brooks (more consistency required)
07. DCE (picks himself - last year?)
08. Taniela Paseka (best prop at club)
09. Jake Simpkin (we just win when he plays)
10. Ethan Bullemor (2nd best forward st the club)
11. Haumole Olakau'atu (best forward at Manly)
12. Tommy Talau (Dane Halatau mach 2)
13. Caleb Navale (leg speed, intensity, agility)

14. Jake Arthur (can play 3,4,6,7,9,13)
15. Josh Aloiai (needs way more consistency 25)
16. S. Taukeiaho (needs to be forward leader 25)
17. Jazz Tevaga (need to play him)

Depth: Croker, Waddell, Brown, Burbo, Jurbo, MCK, Sipley, Potalo, GCKT, Vaega

Players who shouldn't really get game time: Walsh, Matterson, Condon, James, Faulalo, Schoupp

I don't hate it, but will never happen.

Like the concept of Lehi at centre and Talau on the edge.

Not sure we see either in 25.....Lehi possibly more likely.

I think any team without Jurbo starting is a significantly weaker team let alone not in the 17.

Hasn't Condon gone to Super League?

I've no doubt by season's end there will be at least one, probably more, in the team who aren't in our best side at the start. Most coaches identify the talented youngsters they want to use and bring them into first grade later in the season, rather than burn them out by playing them from the get go. This year maybe... Navale? Patolo a smoky?

If Manly is really going to seriously challenge for glory in 2025 these players need to reach a higher level: Paseka, Koula, Burbo, Simpkin, Garrick (all still do have improvement in them I reckon)
