How long before manly is back?

Regarding DCE, if you give someone top of scale pay for the rest of their lives what do they have to work hard for now?

Players always lift up a notch when it's contract time. We'll never get that again with Daly.
Agree that it is a big gamble paying top coin to a player indexed to the TV rights divvy up/salary cap increases for the next ten years, but if I had a choice, DCE would be one I would feel more comfortable with. A quality player in a tight (halves) market who always turns up. And who's to know how much of his salary is in cap or in external TPAs.

I've also noticed over the past couple of rounds that a good meter eating front rower is absolutely massive for a team. We obviously don't have one we have darcy lussuck and Nate "plodder" Myles. We need one obviously and I think when Meehan get up and running with us he will give us a meter eating forward. I don't think addin fonua Blake is able to play big minutes. But he is terrific impact off the bench. And we have knight coming through also.
Have you ever watched meehan?

Cherry Evans ruined it with his greed. Divided the team when everyone else was taking pay cuts. In fact I think cherrys decision has had a huge impact on the game overall in terms of loyalty and money now everyone talks about how careers are a buisness. Whilst cherry may try his heart out.. He takes up most of our cap knowingly and while this continues.. Will we be able to build the culture of old? Mate for mate or all for one? Apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Just hope the turbo brothers don't follow suit. DCE mentality is himself before the team I'm sorry but it's true. Last yr proves that

Sorry Sean John can not agree with you re Chez.

I know for a fact that Chez wanted to stay at Manly for far less than what he ended up getting, but was told to look elsewhere. So after Foran said that he was gone, management were in a bit of trouble and had to try and get Chez to back flip and by that stage they needed to offer him more money to do that.

Chez was loyal and is loyal, however Foran on the other hand chose money, make no mistake about that.

And further more I really do not know for a fact if Watmough etc took unders as far as I am concerned this is all talk and there is no evidence to substantiate these claims. I know Beaver took less, because he knocked back a bigger offer when his contract was coming to an end from the squeels and then resigned with Manly.

Did Fulton stay or go to Easts, he was offered a lot more than Manly offered him and although I was not born then can imagine how gut wrenching that would have been for fans to see him play in the cheating tri colours jersey. But we won a GF in 78, with out him.

Anyway, loyalty can mean different things to different people. And there are still many loyal players in the NRL, maybe not as many as years gone by though. And I for one value loyalty, very highly actually.

But for Chez, he was treated like garbage and I am actually amazed that he holds himself so well and always speaks well of Manly and that at the end of the day he did actually resign with us. He had many, many reasons not to.

Can we all just please admit that the 'pay cuts' many of our star players were supposed to have taken was a myth. So many people on here begrudge Hasler for his back ended contracts (even though probably no premierships without them) so how was anyone taking pay cuts? Seriously guys, playing 1 or 2 years for half of what your worth followed buy 1 or 2 years on 3 times what your worth is not a pay cut!!! Watmough was on 900k in his last year at manly and gifty was also getting close to a mil. Snake would be on something close to that as well given his refusal to leave.

Agreed he should have taken unders and had his salary topped up by using secret TAB accounts and tanking games like the brotherhood did. That's how they stayed so loyal to each other and took less than they were worth each year. He's really selfish.

Its like a politician's 'pay freeze' isn't it. They agree to have 6 months or a year at the same salary as they were on the previous year.....but the reality is that when the freeze ends, they get another pay rise that actually includes the money they would have got during the freeze. They don't miss out, they just defer it for a while. Its all smoke and mirrors designed to make the public believe that they are 'doing their bit'.

I don't know how long the footy will take. But given the way the training grounds looked we may get get good at swimming.

Maybe we can sell him, for three quarters of the money. And get rid of Penn, bozo and peters

As far as I knew we will be back on Sunday, if you mean back as a force , refer to my many posts relating to a five year plan.

Although with our current predicament, and the possible inability to recruit any good players for 2017, it might become a 6-7 year plan.

You are lucky @Turbo , you still have maybe 60-70 years of supporting left to see many ups and downs , a few of us on here only might have another 5,10 or if we are lucky 20 years so sadly we will see less.

Don't panic, it will happen.

Sorry Mark, it simply won't happen at any time with the current coach.

Agree, I didn't say it will happen soon!

Barrett will finish this year , they'll do their best at recruitment and he'll be given maybe 4-6 weeks next year, no success Plan B.

It really worries me when people start saying we need to have a coach who is from Manly or "is Manly" cause that's how we've had our past success. The game was different 20 or 30 years ago - more players came from local areas, represented fewer clubs in their careers. It's not like than anymore. And let's remember we have been BUYING players from outside at record levels for over 40 years....and been pretty successful doing it. The vast majority of our players weren't locals.

I've lived in Newcastle for a long time and this locals first attitude has always been here, not so much with the coach, but the idea all the players have to be locals, the owners locals, the CEO locals etc etc. It's a small time mentality that leads to limited options. The Knights are an absolute shambles the past 10 years because of it.

The best man for the job should get it, whether he is from Manly or the Moon.

Trent Barrett deserves a fair go - I doubt anybody would be coaching this team to any great heights this year based on injuries alone. What squad would be firing if in their spine they had no 5/8, a halfback that's been injured half the year, a fullback who is either injured or refuses get out of a light jog, and a rookie hooker ( who is going well I might add ). Like seriously....hello ....

How long will it take to refind our manly spirit and culture? 2 years? 5 years? 10 or more? We all know that ATM we don't have any culture or spirit. The old manly culture consisted of players putting the club before them selves, putting aside their differences (snake and cherry) to play good footy. Who would have thought 1 player leaving could ruin one clubs whole culture and future. We all had a top 8 finish or better for 2016 and maybe a premiership by 2017 or 2018. ATM we are out of the picture for 2016 and the way we are headed 2017 also. How long will it be before we are back? I've followed manly for a fairly short time compared to a lot of you and I've been very lucky to be watching manly while they've been successful. I don't know much about the northern eagles saga but I know that was pretty much our worst period, how is that compared to our current situation. For me 2017 rests on one massive thing getting DCE a halves partner. At the current point in time we have no halves and even at full strength we have 1. That's not going to get you anything and we have no halves depth either which is very bad. Manly need to realise that no 5/8 means no success. And also who's smart idea was it to sack tooves? He never did anything wrong. Get him back and sign Corey Norman bring back success and our culture you bring back manly. Or even get des back and get tooves as his assistant just please no more Barrett he doesn't pick and stick. Older guys in the forum I have a lot of respect for you and in your opinion how long will it be before I can enjoy watching manly again? How long before manly will be back?
TLDR

The answer is about 10 minutes after the Greek **** dies or the club is sold to the next benevolent owners

Here is my take on it. It is very expensive to buy a premiership. Most teams that win are a close knit unit. Look at our team of say 5 years ago. It was made up of local juniors, rejects from other clubs and one big name (Killer). OK Snake may be in same category although he came here because Gifty was overlooked. DCE could have been taken up by a QLD team but overlooked.

These tight teams allow the talented players to shine.

World examples of the are Leicester City. They are ultimate true team. Players like Vardy only shone because of the team effort.

To a lesser degree Golden State Warriors .... A team that appear to play for the team .. Steph Curry is now the top player in NBA ... but his elevation has been on the back of a great team effort over the last 2 seasons.

Look at the QLD team that Fatty coached in the first year of super league!!

Manly Seaeagles had the heart ripped out of them over the last 2 seasons. Look at the support staff that were escorted out the door. I still think players and staff need name badges.

I personally do not know how you capture that. It is not something you buy, instruct or demand. It is often been said the BK lead us out of doldrums. It takes this sort of personality to do it. For as much as I love Killer I think he has been burnt and probably can't wait to get out of the place.

My expectations are going to be low for awhile yet. I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. Maybe the big Greek fellow is blocking it?
