With Dave Smith leaving I was wanting to think what people think of the last 3 years. Personally I think it has been pretty ordinary maybe 2 or 3 out of 10. I see the criteria of:
1) Do the people running the game understand it and have a vision for it?
Answer: No way. Dave Smith to me just has never got rugby league at all.
2) Has there been a connection between those running the game and the fans?
Answer: Absolutely not. Fans are becoming more and more disenfranchised that they are seen as 'customers'
3) Is there consistency?
Answer: Again no way at all. There is one rule for one and one rule for others (case in point Tooves getting a $10k fine, whereas Thurston gets off scott free after claiming a 'conspiracy' against non Sydney teams.
Add into this the judiciary and their rulings.
4) Is the Administration reactionary or proactive? Visionary?
Answer: certainly not visionary. The policy on the run in the last couple of years is nothing short of pathetic. Changing rules constantly mid season has become nothing short of a joke.
5) Did Dave Smith surround himself with capable people?
Answer: This to me is the mark of a great leader, they surround themselves with great people......Greenberg, Richardson.....need I say anymore.
Which I then begs the question. Who should run the NRL?
