Guerra admitting to diving is high irony indeed. Robinson was adamant his Players would never dive. This was after the Glenn Stewart dive to get a penalty in the Rabbids v Rorters game.

Two weeks ago, Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson called diving “abhorrent” and wanted it struck from the game. He claimed he didn’t coach it, but if it continued he might have to start. Trent Robinson said: “We don’t play for penalties. We are not going to lie down. It’s not in the spirit of the game. We will let the footy gods decide.”

Hodges will likely be a liability due to his back issues.
So the Broncs may have to be a man short after 30 minutes - just like the Rorters were when Pearce's hammy went earlu in their game.

I haven't heard what suspension Guerra received for admitting to 1) diving and 2) placing himself in a dangerous position, anybody know?? Would habe to be 5-6 weeks by my reckoning.......

Probably right decision. Would of liked Hodges rubbed out, but if you look at the tackle, Guerra jumps and does a roll to milk it. If he hurt himself, did it to himself

So we want to charge players for milking penalties...really. How many times during a game do you here the ref call 'milking', so play can continue. Now we have blow the penalty the other way and put the player on report?

If Guerra put himself in a dangerous position, he does so willingly. Players suffer concussions every week when they get their head in the wrong position in a legitimate low tackle and cop a hip or knee. Given these concussions can have serious consequences, including death, should every low tackler be charged for putting them self in a dangerous position? Same logic IMO, and is the same logic used to ban shoulder charges etc.

Like most, I hate Hodges, but I thought the judiciary, for a change, got this one right. If Guerra doesn't jump, he doesn't end up in that position. By all means eradicate the lifting tackle, but let's not go to the ridiculous extremes we have with shoulder charges.

Perhaps it should have read, Guerra put himself in a dangerous illegal position, there does that make a difference?

Anyway, in the end this outcome is just creating ever more 'grey areas' in the game, exactly what those running the game desire, so couldn't be all bad could it.

Listened to Hodges on radio straight after the non guilty verdict and he said he had rung Guerra and discussed the tackle.......obviously to get the stories right. Should this be allowed?

It's illegal to upend another player in a tackle, and rightfully so. At this stage, it's not illegal to upend yourself in a tackle, so why should he be charged?

Don't tell me if Guerra had been injured seriously and there was a public outcry over the tackle that Hodges wouldn't have been suspended.
Thus it shouldn't be the injury ( not being cruel here) but the lifting itself.
Should have been suspended.

I nearly crashed the car this morning on the way to work!!
Living just an hour from Brisbane the local radio station was saying it was a conspiracy to let Hodges play!!
Saying the judiciary would have suspended him if Bronco's were playing a Sydney team, but let him off simply based on the fact they are playing Nth Qld....the hypocrites whine about him maybe being suspended, then cry foul when he is let off??
Personally believe he would have been allowed to play if they were playing the Jupiter Jumping fish....boo Santa Claus these ppl...

Putting your head in a dangerous position whilst attempting a legitimate tackle is so far removed from diving on your own head to draw a penalty and/or suspension of an opposition player it's not funny. Hodges probably did the wrong thing by grabbing a leg, but that's what they are coached to do and it was by no means a classic "hands between the legs lifting tackle" IMO. Guerra seized on the opportunity to milk the situation and place himself in a "controlled" dangerous position, something he freely admitted to at the judiciary. You have to wonder about the mentality of players willing to roll the dice on serious injury in these circumstances, especially with multiple players in the tackle which makes it harder to control the outcome of your actions. Guerra should be sanctioned to send a message that this behaviour is not tolerable on so many levels.

I understand what you're saying C&C, and I think Guerra's actions were stupid beyond belief. However, if he is charged for trying to milk a penalty, then where does it end? Do we charge players who stay down after a suspect hit, then jump straight up when the penalty is awarded? Do we charge players for holding a tackler on top of them, looking for a penalty?

The problem is the NRL believes in blanket rules so as to eliminate grey areas. This is the case with obstructions where decoys a penalised if they make any contact, regardless if it affected the play or not. It is the case with the shoulder charge crackdown, which was a direct result of Inglis's hit on Dean Young a couple of years ago, but has now been extended so that even rubbing shoulders with someone, like Mason did with Burgess this year, results in a two week suspension.

If Guerra was hit with Contrary Conduct, or Bringing the Game Into Disrepute, then the next time a player stayed down after a hit etc, you'd have the Roosters and their media buddies screaming 'Double standards!'. Unfortunately, we all know the NRL would be stupid enough to listen and impose the same 'one-rule-fits-all' mentality.

If anything, Guerra should be hit with a Grade 5 Stupidity charge!

it's unreal and small time.

from within the game and from the outside everyone (who actually cares or follows the game) is questioning these people and laughing at them ... but they just carry on making the decisions their masters require.
From 'gamble responsibly' to the BS excuses and 'stamping out' slogans they have no credibility.
