What you are saying is right @lurker. Defamation is not straightforward and truth is a full defence. Greenberg is very careful about what he says and although he does seem to have made a slip up here which may well cost him his job it may not constitute defamation.

The primary basis for the uproar is that he conducted a process without affording natural justice or procedural fairness to an immortal of the game.

Greenberg's problem is that he picked a target who it would seem is far more powerful than he anticipated (how he didn't know Bozo was powerful is another mystery!). If he just targeted Bare/Barrett/Toovey or even Penn he probably would have got away with it.

On the "architect" thing, Hooper said that this was in the NRL brief given to "senior journalists", but we don't know exactly what was said and this could have been Hooper paraphrasing or misunderstanding. We know Hooper's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but we all know he's a tool.

So where is this NRL briefing to senior "journalist's" (propaganda recipients).Why haven't the details been disclosed or reported on ?
So these 'journalists" walk up to the NRL and just lap up what ever dross Todd puts in the bowl and then they waddle away and say nothing .That's not journalism that just being a lackey and lick spittle for the NRL.
I'm no lawyer ,but boiling a lot of what went down the other day,there appears to be no documents that have been made public to list Manly's indiscretions(after 9 f*&^%ing months !! and 2 years of match fixing investigations as well ) yet they have gone out of there way to blame Bozo and have attempted to expunge him from the game without even speaking to him.My question is why ?Why try and amplify the fact that you are blaming Fulton after all he has achieved in the game without even having heard his side of the story ? Is the evidence that strong or is it that weak ? And were they hoping that by doing that it will put the heat on Fulton and not the sham investigation.In other words dont look over here (at our witch hunt)look over there at the evil "architect" .I just dont get it why after saying we had done all these wrongs that appear to have been accepted by all the "journalists" that they then go and poor petrol on an immortal and throw a match on him
-also why no interview with Toovey,Hasler,the time line doesnt even add up with Kelly iether he started in Nov 2014 ?
-I also read(The Australian) that Penn asked them to look at the salary cap after the match fixing was debunked WTF ?,again why ? I know there is a thing such as corporate governance but the last thing you want to do is invite an organisation headed up by a slithering reptile like TG to go on a fishing expedition into all your privates.I mean there is a million people and organistions who can do the same thing but keep it confidential and not throw you under the bus .
-the managers involved with parra still no resolution with them and no mention or not much of the managers involved with Manly ?
-why did the NRL spoon feed all the "journalistic" cretins before the presser did they do that with parra scandal and is that common practice ?
-how much has the NRL board memembers' investigative company charged the NRL for this and how can that arrangement possibly stand up to scrutiny i.e Dracula investigating the blood bank and sipping from the vault all the way
I maybe reading a bit too much into all of this but a lot is just strange and I can only think that even though this scam has gone on for 9 months that Greenburg has tried to paper over the flimsy and tenuous threads he has cobbled together against us with an avalanche of media bias fed by the organisation that runs the game (hows that for more contradictory and conflicted actions) and a few red herrings (fulton) so that people and any decent media wont look to closely and what would be a verging on a self reported misinterpretation of the TPA rules V systematic rorting ie parra and Storm.I think that because this has gone on for sooooo long that Greenburg has had to come up with something.And he is doing his best to make sure no one looks to closely at it as he is trying to provide lots of other shiny objects for people to look at .
I really do hope that Penn goes for Greenburgs scrawny throat in this as I think we have been totally screwed over .I'm hoping the response Penn came out with the other day is an indication that he girding his loins and will use his not inconsiderable resources to right a few wrongs blow the lid of the rort that is TPAs and most importantly expunge the NRL landscape of what is surely the lowest example of mismanagement ineptitude and incompetence god ever put breathe into..GREENBURG!!

Great post, I agree with everything you've said, just wanted to add to this particular point that the NRL repaid Penn's graciousness in inviting them in to audit Manly by raiding MWSE's Narrabeen HQ mobhanded with police heavyhandedness & had tipped off the media so it was plastered all over every newspaper & current affairs show at the time.

hadley good on you.... im sure every league supporter agrees with you. id back bozo anyday over todd and twice on sunday. but despite anyones guilt or otherwise, its time to show toddy the door. his gross misconduct, incompetence, bias, inconsitency and total lack of understanding of our great game has gone on for too long. im still livid he actually even attended the anniversary of storms 07 premiership which wasnt cos they fkn cheated, wasnt some TPA bs either - was next level systematic, blatant separate set of books and paperbag payments bs! he should never have been given the keys and gotten to this position of power but he somehow did (which also needs to be looked into, imean WTF!? and before he completely destroys this great game which he has pretty much done already.
