Crocker faces nine-week ban
May 8, 2006

MELBOURNE and Queensland forward Michael Crocker is facing a nine-week suspension – ruling him out of the entire rugby league State of Origin series – after being charged with a grade-four dangerous throw.

Crocker was charged today for his tackle that left South Sydney's Shane Rigon with a shoulder injury and concussion in Storm's 38-14 NRL win on Saturday night.

The grade-four charge carries a base penalty of a seven-week ban.

Crocker;s ban would be increased because of past offences.

Gregan's tackle was similarly sickening. What chance only 1 week so he's right for the semis?

Mind you the Brumbies have to win this w/e to make the semis safe. If they make it they will play the same team next week. (Crusaders)

If the Tahs win they will be the Hurricanes at home again next week as well.

Yeah George's tackle wasn't the best and he will probably get 1 at the most, thats rugby for you. But his record is no where as bad as Crockers 6 suspensions in last 5 seasons

lets face it, Union is the only game a guy can be pinned on the ground and if the balls near his head its perfectly legal to stomp on his face!

Well, Living in QLD is about to become a lot more annoying... every paper from now on will have how "the NSWelshman on the panel at the judiciary were out to ban crocker" and all the rest of the ****....

Such a crock... He has and will never be anything more than a thug.. Melbourne knew this before buying him..

Sucked in to him, melbourne and QLD.. the good news is he won't learn a lesson from this as he hasn't any other time

Too true Nutz. As a relatively newcomer to QLD from NSW I have been horrified at the biased and self focused reporting up here. Barry Dick for example,,,,,,,good golly !

And the Union verdict is ... 1 match so Gregan's right for the semis.

Crocker's history is a red herring. It would have been 7 weeks instead of 9 if he was a cleansheet. And there's an additional 3 weeks if he contests and loses.

Dr Merv Cross described the Union decision as "disgusting". Most people who saw both thought it was more dangerous than Crocker's.

The Union judiciary system is a bad joke. How do you reconcile the earlier ban of a Waratah forward for 4 weeks for a nothing incident (because it was in South Africa and mid-season) with Gregan's one week for a paralysis-threatening one (because it was in Aust and near the semis)? Cashflow-determined decisions?

And, waving Parra's colours, Ray Price couldn't see anything wrong with either tackle!! Should wear a Reg Regan-style bring back the spear-tackle T-shirt.

Being generous to Price, perhaps he's been on the receiving end of one too many head-highs and should visit some spinal injury wards and ask the residents what they think.

Craig Smith went to England to escape the judiciary.

Perhaps Crocker should go to Union!

Don't forget that when Anton Oliver was wrongly charged they didn't even bother using the video to get the real culprit who escaped 'scot free'. The Rugby Judiciary is a joke, right back from when Richard Loe escaped despite putting Paul Carozza's face into Orbit a few years back!!

Exactly right CW. And the Aussies (Brumbies?) told them they had the wrong bloke before Oliver was cited - but they went through the farce anyway.

Flowers' best defence to the leniency of the Gregan tackle is that Union is being consistent!!!!!

Flowers defends Gregan decision
Tuesday, May 9, 2006
...

Flowers said SANZAR had been considering changes to its judiciary system, including steps to eliminate accusations of home town decisions, before the Gregan tackle.

The ACT halfback's case was heard by a three-member Australian panel in Canberra.

...

Flowers pointed out Highlanders forward Craig Newby also received a one-match ban for a dangerous tackle early in the year.

"In that respects there has been some consistency across rugby," he said.

But NSW coach Ewen McKenzie was still perplexed by the judiciary's inconsistency, comparing Gregan's case with Waratah forward Rocky Elsom's four-week ban for attempting to punch an opponent.

"I can't believe that with the intelligence of the people involved we can't get a better result," McKenzie said of the judiciary
