Grey matter

I really dont know what happens in the club but from a distance, as a fan ill give an opinion.

Manly have some great players in this squad, at times they are unstoppable but there is a pattern in how we play. We are an attack based footy team and not by accident. From what trent says and how we play our game plan seems to be based on scoring more points than other teams. Thats it.when on a roll they are really good. Players like perret are weapons when the defence is retreating and gassed.

But modern footy is about ball control, pressure, discipline, kick pressure, defence The other teams are so good you have to have a brain on the field but we simply dont.

When cherry fires and plays like a half rather than a fullback , manly win. Cherry is a bloody good player, he is gutsy creative , and really has a dig but for mine he is our biggest problem. Not his ability but how much cap room he takes up. Brisbane are having the same issues with milford. Great players, very skilled competitors but take up too much cap room in a position that demands more strings to the bow.

A team may be able to spend 1.5 on halves . Cherrs contract just means we will have to seriously weaken our squad to get the player in the same spot to guide us, control us. Trent has spoken about how cherry doesnt want to run the team, and wants freedom while demanding a salary of a general. It just doesnt work, and frankly never will. If you want the coin you have to be the man. Its just that simple

I dont want to bag him, just the facts. He goes well, is a good captain but his presence weakens our opportunities to get the tools we need to be a consistent, hard nosed team that plays with there heads

He deserves to get what he can, no worries about that but as a club i support i just do not see us progressing deep into the final unless we get lucky and unearth some kid to run the team on peanuts.

He may develop down the track but too be honest im just not seeing us focussed enough on what it takes to compete weeek in week out in the nrl.

Id hate to see him go but he isnt going to take a pay cut of 300k, and unless we address this balance, manlys future is already booked and we wont be winning a title this decade

The other side to be able to win matches on a regular basis is also to be able get into the grind and try to play tough for the full 80 . Not much of an advantage being able to put on points and then drop off for extended periods . Of course still good to have excellent attacking players but this present Manly team needs more of a harder edge to really be a title threat , even with a slightly disadvantaged salary cap situation .

Oh , here we go. There is always someone trying to cloud the issue with FACTS.

Yes of course your right, while i meant future i did forget that, and rightfully so as was was drunk that month in 2011

Your obviously not as silly as your name suggests , just as me talking about grey matter is well, ..........what was the question again

We are a bloody competitive team who've been smashed by injuries. On the whole, I thought we hit pretty hard in defence yesterday and we were in with a shot. Take 5 first grade players out of any modern-day football team and you are going to struggle and that's not even including Lussick. I agree with everyone's confusion about moving Api when Hasting's came on but that one was down to the coach, not the players. I feel Gosiewski can cover for Sironen and Lussick should be able to slot in for Tanginoa but it's going to take time.

I'm confident we will jag a win next week back at Brookie with Turbo back in his rightful place and Jono Wright back to Blacktown, it's far too early to talk of radical changes and Dylan will only be better for the run. 3 from 6 next week.

Defence wins comps. Always has.

Tigers 2005 is the obvious recent anomaly, and we ain't the tigers of '05.

The best defensive teams win premierships, we haven't been one of those since 2011.

As far as Cherry goes, there is no club in the comp that would match or come close to what he makes. It is evident that without others providing direction and options he can't produce the wins by himself.

In a nutshell, without Tom T on the field, we are not much chance of winning.

We should go in with the mind set if being down 3 first grade players. Every. Single. Week.

Chez is 800k of a 9.4million cap, as per the TPA Investigation findings @

Manly will find its rhythm once the endless injuries cease - hopefully soon :praying:

The Uate side of the field has let in more tries than is warranted.
Not sure why we can't stop this back pedalling, but Teams just head to our right and score at will.
Really disappointed that none of our forwards have stepped up in defending our RHS. 🙁

Lets hope that a 'Truth Session' is being convened 🙂

The comeback to within 2 points was reassuring

Our attack is stunted and everybody saw Croker exposed yesterday. One 5th tackle play when Cherry had to play the ball he basically took a hit up, didn't really look to pass or kick, how can TB say we are an attacking team when one of our halves doesn't ever kick in play?

I know Tom T was out and of course that will effect our attack...and defence to a lesser extent but inside the 20m line we didn't really look likely to score. Big problem for an 'attacking' team IMO.
