Great article - big 3 ain’t the problem

No
Hate them, despise them but Bellamy and the Drizzle just keep on rolling on.

Cap issues aside ( cheating bastards at the time ) my point is there’s not another team that does it better.

We all thought when Cronk went to the Roosters that this would slow them down, Nup!!

And then when Studs first finally retired that this would slow them down , Nup!!

And finally YES FINALLY, when the great Scam hung up his boots this would really bring them back to the pack , Nup !!

Roll on 2021, and they are probably the team to beat.

WHY

Coaching & Recruitment

AND

Systems

Taking off your Manly goggles you just have to stand and applaud them.

PS: you can still hate them , I do!
Not "we all" Mark, I've been loved here for over a decade warning people they have it all wrong about Melbourne, well i guess i don't count since I have been called a Melb fan trolling Silvertails also, so maybe you are right.

If the attack is overly one dimensional it doesn't take rocket science to work out that missing a certain player will cause wild fluctuations in win rate percentages.(Same with B.Stewart)

This doesn't necessarily mean Brett and Tom are so great, more Manly needs to change things up(attacking wise) and other players compensating when stars are missing.

Once again it is taking stats at face value and not applying any depth with the analysis behind the figures to work out why beyond "this player out percentage goes down"

IMO the whole article is written based on the assumption that Manly, like many other clubs, tried to emulate Melbourne's "big three" model.

It goes on to point out how successful Melbourne are/were but how unsuccessful Manly have been.

It's almost like Joey chose to ignore the fact that Manly's "big three" model occurred under entirely different circumstances to Melbourne's - I suppose because doing so would make his comparison completely irrelevant.

Whatever point he's trying to make, he's being pretty clumsy about it.
He wrote the article to promote himself only as the guru of league tactics and game direction

the new Gus

he could change the club name ,change the players names and write it again about any team in any sport

Matty Johns is a dud and a grub

Yep, this, and also the effectiveness of recruiting for mindset as a priority.
Very true. Again, look to the BWSE game last week. Cust and Harper were throwing themselves into it with a vengeance, as were T Sips and Saddler. None of them touted as anything other than fringe first graders, but that attitude alone was way more encouraging than the rubbish that much more skilful players like Suli and even DCE were showing us last week.
