The alternative view would be he played us for a song - got a verbal promise from Gus about the penrith coaching gig, triggered the ridiculous 12 month notice ending mid season knowing full well what a predicament that placed the club in, then played up the lack of resources cover story to force a payout on the way up the M4.

Yep ..... all things are possible .... and without known facts ..... all is supposition ...... I simply prefer to wait until we know the truth, if that ever happens before I actively assassinate someones character ..... I am also a fan of the Ocrams Razor theory .....

Poor twent, he has no control over his own life. First gus told him lies, then the nasty men at manly wouldn't hire him extras to cover his obvious shortcomings, now his bad old manager is telling him to sit in the corner and be quiet.

I know that's tongue in check, but if that is Twent's mentality in life; it would perfectly explain his performances while coaching.
I think it's funny on here how some think Trent was an idiot at coaching but a criminal mastermind when it came to contracts and putting Manly over a barrel.

The way I see it, Trent assisinated his own character. Resigning his position effective halfway through a season is simply spiteful and self serving. Those who have negative opinions of the man are simply using fact based criticisms.

So ... using that logic .. you would have preferred him to say nothing, carry on coaching unhappy and wait until Nov 1st to hand in his 12 month notice so that it expires at the end of the season ... and then coach through 2019 .......

After last season it will be great to see Walkz fit and firing after a good preseason .... also Brad Parker needs to excorcise a couple of demons .... he looks to have put on a few kg's ...

Well first up, I was never in the Trent bashing brigade throughout his tenure, staying pretty much neutral and hopeful during his time (and as you know I rarely side with Penn). My belief is he disrespected everyone by spitting the dummy and going through legal channels to issue his 12 month notice. If the situation was really that bad, I would have hoped he would have sat down and said I’m not getting results, it’s not working out as we all hoped, let’s work on winding up my appointment at the end of the season to be fair to everyone. I also felt he did his fair share of character assisinating our club, and by the end, a few journo’s also called him on it.

Oops.. I thought it was the first stage of the centre of excellence the boys were at.
Good to see the activity with the boys getting in some early training before first day with Des.

Basically, yes, I don't know of any coach who still has a job and not in danger of losing it and still be unhappy, he knew the club wasn't flush with funds when he joined us, surely he didn't expect things to change overnight, there was an upgrade on the gym, as well as an upgrade and extension on his contract, and Barrett himself said that it wasn't the gym, perhaps it was a lot of niggly things that he didn't encounter at Penrith, a club that has millions at it's disposal.
An honourable person would have waited until the season finished and then hand in his resignation for the end of next year, if things didn't improve to his standards.
I suspect there was an ulterior motive behind such an unusual resignation, perhaps the promise of another coaching position, and perhaps it has come back to bite him on the ar$e.

The stupid thing is that if the situation hadn't changed at Penrith, none of this would even be happening.

Barrett was supposed to be gone and settling in as coach of Penrith. But before it could happen it became public knowledge that Nathan Cleary wanted to be coached by his dad.....and with Penrith so desperate to keep him that meant going after Ivan Cleary or risk losing Nathan to the Tigpies. Barrett got screwed over by Gould, but at the same time it was stupid of him not to get some sort of guarantee in writing from the Panthers.

And now that Barrett doesn't have a job to go to, we're stuck with this situation where he and his management are looking for a payout.

Its all about the money......geez, sounds like some WWE entrance theme that I know of 😵

The moral of the story is simple. Do NOT trust Phil Gould.
