Good start

The stupid thing is that if the situation hadn't changed at Penrith, none of this would even be happening.

Barrett was supposed to be gone and settling in as coach of Penrith. But before it could happen it became public knowledge that Nathan Cleary wanted to be coached by his dad.....and with Penrith so desperate to keep him that meant going after Ivan Cleary or risk losing Nathan to the Tigpies. Barrett got screwed over by Gould, but at the same time it was stupid of him not to get some sort of guarantee in writing from the Panthers.

And now that Barrett doesn't have a job to go to, we're stuck with this situation where he and his management are looking for a payout.

Its all about the money......geez, sounds like some WWE entrance theme that I know of 😵

The moral of the story is simple. Do NOT trust Phil Gould.
Exactly- got it in one

So ... using that logic .. you would have preferred him to say nothing, carry on coaching unhappy and wait until Nov 1st to hand in his 12 month notice so that it expires at the end of the season ... and then coach through 2019 .......

Like the wise old men of yester year say, my Sea Eagles compadre. "Times up" and please let the Twenty Bwarret admiration go so we can all move on.

Arguing that his sanctimonious (insincere as he was headed to the riff) actions in bringing the about opening of the Penns wallet are noble; but he was proven incompetent in coaching/managing 13 million dollars worth of Manly cattle. For this there is no argument.

Any farmer worth his salt would have thrown him out in July, no pay, and a black eye for his troubles.

It would be absolutely hilarious if two removalist trucks arrive tomorrow in front of all the journo's.
One to pick up Trent's desk, and the other to deliver Des's desk!

Ivan Cleary, Manly’s unwitting agent of change.

You can take the junior out of Manly, but not the Manly out of the junior.

Basically, yes, I don't know of any coach who still has a job and not in danger of losing it and still be unhappy, he knew the club wasn't flush with funds when he joined us, surely he didn't expect things to change overnight, there was an upgrade on the gym, as well as an upgrade and extension on his contract, and Barrett himself said that it wasn't the gym, perhaps it was a lot of niggly things that he didn't encounter at Penrith, a club that has millions at it's disposal.
An honourable person would have waited until the season finished and then hand in his resignation for the end of next year, if things didn't improve to his standards.
I suspect there was an ulterior motive behind such an unusual resignation, perhaps the promise of another coaching position, and perhaps it has come back to bite him on the ar$e.

Perhaps ..... but as you say, you suspect ... and my point has always been that we simply don't know what events or conversations led him to his actions ...

Your comments are an opinion and well said ..... and may well be true ..... unlike many, I for one will wait until the movie comes out before I am prepared to abuse him based on what I might suspisions ...
