Sea Eagles coaches Des Hasler, Trent Barrett stay away from club
THE confusion continued at Manly when the club’s two head coaches were expected to start work on Monday morning — but neither showed up.

As of Sunday night, outgoing coach Trent Barrett had planned to turn up for work at the club’s Narrabeen headquarters.

He didn’t arrive for what was supposed to be his first day back from holidays. Instead, it’s understood Barrett was in meetings with his legal representatives after further legal letters were exchanged with the club over the weekend.

Incoming coach Des Hasler heard Barrett may be at Narrabeen on Monday morning so he didn’t appear either to avoid any embarrassment.

While adamant it isn’t personal, Hasler has made it clear he does not want Barrett around Manly HQ as he serves his 12-month notice, having resigned last July.

Well-placed sources claim Hasler has been strongly urging Manly CEO Lyall Gorman to fix the problem so he can get on with coaching.

Gorman wasn’t at Narrabeen yesterday either. The Daily Telegraph yesterday waited at Narrabeen in vain all morning for either Hasler or Barrett to arrive.

Several members were of Manly’s coaching staff were there — strength and conditioning trainer Don Singe, head trainer Alex Ross, physio Andre Rickenbach and media manager Wayne Cousins.

While the team isn’t due back until early next month, one player, Curtis Sironen, was at the club yesterday, completing some sprint work after ACL surgery this year.

But no coaches.

The doors to Manly’s football offices were closed most of the morning. Manly co-owner Scott Penn would not comment on Monday night.

The Sea Eagles rejected a payout request from Barrett just last week and the matter could still end up in court. Barrett and Manly continue to circle each other for possible breaches of contract.

Manly players are expected back to off-season early next month.

Gorman has stated he hoped the drama with Barrett could be solved within the next week.

Penn has defended the decision to appoint Hasler while still having Barrett as head coach.

Barrett still has one year remaining on his contract, Manly wanting him to see out his 12-month notice period - which would end in July - rather than offer a payout.

Hasler was asked about Barrett just last week when appointed head coach at Brookvale.

“To tell you the truth, I haven’t had any discussion around that and there’ve been the negotiations I’ve had — there’s been no discussions about Trent,” Hasler said.

You’ve got to feel sorry for them, don’t you?! I mean, all the DT was trying to do was get a photo of both Des and Baz and a couple of quotes so they can run another embarrassing story about Manly and the bastards didn’t come to the party...

Good to see Cuzzo is now considered part of the coaching staff, not sure how he will go with his dodgy ankle during the field work.

Also great to Curtis back into it and getting an early start for 2019! Des would like that attitude.

Hey guys
Don’t despair
What about the good news ????
No players
No coaches
No Gorman
But......
Plenty of chairs spare

We’re on the rise again
Jeez des works quick
We will take it out from here
Go Manly

And all other reports were that everyone was due back on the 5th November, yet now the Telecrap know different. What a bunch of flogs, sitting outside waiting for something that's not going to happen and now reporting more turmoil. Gorman should just ban anyone talking to these drop kicks for a while. P1ss them off

I have long defended Barrett on these pages.

But he is dead set taking the p*ss if he thinks he has a leg to stand on arfuing he should be head coach, when he handed in his resignation to leave in July 2019.

On what planet would anybody think its a viable situation to have a professional sporting team coached by a bloke who will walk out half way through the year?

Suck it up, Trent. Move on and get an assistant coaching role at another club.

The rhetoric you spouted about being in it all for the players is really starting to look like posturing bullsh*t when all you are doing now is creating a very uncomfortable situation for those players you care about.

It’s ALL about the $$$$$$ and nothing else.

It's all out of his hands now old mate ..... whatever the original motivations were it is now just a legal argument .... and there is no way his manager is going to forego his % of a payout ...... Barrett is now largely a spectator to his manager mouthpiece .....

It is as @Mark from Brisbane says .. it is about the $$$ ..... and reason and fair play will take a back seat to legal entitlement ....

One of Barrett's biggest problems seems to be placing his faith in the wrong people.

Between Gould and Beavis he has been well and truly screwed.

You can add Penn and the Manly club in my opinion ......

But alas .... Beavis ain't going to let his part of $4ook slip away ..... and to be honest, if I was Baz and believed I had been let down ... I wouldn't either ....
