Giving strawberries to Pigs ....

Someone can still hopefully bring home the bacon then .

Tell me you do this whilst stroking your hipster beard over an olive oil and avocado flavoured craft beer?

Do i tell you because its true or because you want to hear it. Take what you need mate, i can wear the consequences happily. .......................................sorry missed a bit i had to untangle my beard fusing a special blend of coconut oil and vegan duck fat.

But seriously i do have a beard and i like hats . You can paint your own picture from that. Now where is my ginger moccasins made from recycled car tyres . Have to go mate its time for my kambucha

I have always been a proud, loyal and confident supporter, and always supportive of Manly .... to a fault ..... coaches, players, the club ... everything .... could see no evil ..... since attending my first games as a teen in the 60's, to hanging around the sheds and playing as a lower grade numpty in the 70's, then as a boofhead supporter for the next half century..... I have loved and supported the club ...

What a sad state of affairs it is when a long time (nearly wrote old timer but didn’t want to risk the acid tongue rebuke) Manly fan that has followed this team as long as you have, feel this way. That you do, is a powerful message to everyone, things are not right and need to change quick smart. Thank you for posting this @Woodsie, I have only been a supporter for 43 years, a blip in the ocean compared to you, and during that time there has been many ups and downs, for you to be feeling like this at this point says more about the current state of affairs than any spreadsheets or annual report, I truly hope the Powers that be can turn a corner and finally listen to the bleeding obvious before we lose anymore great stewards as yourself and get our greats back in the loop, back in the sheds to bring back our culture for the young players, and supporters for years to come.

And in true Trent Barrett form I wipe a tear from the corner of my eye with my Kleenex ...

Cheers

But a huge part of that support was always the people at the club and that I had met along the way .... Manly, like most football clubs were blessed with outstanding people .... back in the day the sheds were always full of ex-manly greats that volunteered their time as selecters, team managers, gear stewards, cleaner-uperers or just blokes who liked to hang out ...

We had people at the club to be proud of. Arko, Stanton, Peters, Tennyson, Hunter, Fulton. Ritchie, Batty.

It would not be unusual to turn up to find Roy bull asking kids how they pulled up, Rueb Hudson, Bernie Seymour, Gordon Willoughby, Bob Lenon, Bill Hamilton and many others all just being around the place .... making themselves useful and giving back ....

Today of course there are no volunteers, they wouldn't be allowed in the sheds .... would have to get somebodies permission ....

Which brings me to my point ..... I have been trying to come up with the name of one person at the club in any senior capacity ... that on the 23/09/2018 ... that I can honestly say I like, admire or respect ...... and I can't ... not a bloody one ....

... and with all respect to Gorman ..... if he is your answer ..... if a Cronulla bloke who has been at our great club for less than a year is your answer ..... then we are truly fukked ....

Giving a Centre of Excellence to this mob is akin to giving strawberries to pigs ......

Does Beaver Menzies still have that " ambassador role" with the club . Guess with the Black Town connection or affiliation now , would tend to dilute the past Manly player or official participation a bit more. Times do change but i recall just before the North's merger , seeing ex players like Ed Willey for instance mowing the playing field at Brookvale oval in his own time and as a volunteer and i am sure that there were many like him willingly wishing to be part of the club in some capacity also . Same with board selection meetings , pre merger and franchise days and so on . The previous merger and now the franchise transition have again invariably altered this normal and previous ex player and official "s and supporter based participation but naturally and preferably , the more traditional Manly influence still now in club functioning the better of course .
Maybe if Lyall is reading this he will put his hand up to mow the ;awns at Brookie!
Maybe do a sponsorship deal with Jim's Mowing

would find a negative in the club getting a centre of excellence....
Why do we need a blooming Centre of Excellence. The Titans had one for years with Cartwrong at the helm, and they managed a Spoon out of it.
You'd almost be better off having fluffers available at the warm up- a damn sight cheaper!
Besides, I read another posters comments elsewhere (forgive me I can't remember who), who rightfully stated we have two Centres of Excellence - Lyon and Matai

Dont think Cartwright got to use the Center of Excellence, had gone belly up when he left.

To me the spectre walked in the same door Tooves was forced out of and they would've passed each other on the way.
I'm hopeful the speculated up coming good news will act as something of a cleansing ceremony and will roll on to some of the old heads coming back and restoring our culture.
Maybe I'm being overly optimistic, but at the moment I feel like I'm standing in the middle of some Mad Max type wasteland as far as we are concerned.

At least bringing Matty Ballin back to the club is a step in the right direction. It hasn't been announced officially of course, but I'd say you can bet your house on it.

We need one because our illustrious coach went to the media complaining about the time his family came into the locker room 3 years ago and cleaned it, or the time he offered to bring in his plastic garden chairs...

The centre of excellence will house the admin staff and will be 15 km's from the players and the training grounds ......

The accountant and membership renewal guy will have nice offices ...... and I am certain the receptionist will look beaut in the new foyer ....... Guess that is just another indication of the clubs priorities ......

... especially with others peoples money ......

Geez Woodsie, you really know how to look at things with a glass half empty attitude these days...

Sometimes it's ok just to be happy if something good happens. Doesn't always have to take a negative spin.

But hey, each to their own. Enjoy the offseason.

it was simply an in kind response to your smart arse comment about Barrett and I quote ..... you said .....

"We need one because our illustrious coach went to the media complaining about the time his family came into the locker room 3 years ago and cleaned it, or the time he offered to bring in his plastic garden chairs..."

If you can't understand that they were examples chosen by the Rothfool as indicative of a situation as opposed to your naive belief that they were specifically the problem ..... well each to his own .....

I only pointed out the fact that you would be wrong anyway ...... the coach and the team will be far from the plush new CoE .......
