Garrick general news thread

Don 't think that the Perth Bears are getting any concessions that the P N G franchise may be receiving in whatever limited form so Perth would pretty much have to offer overs to entice Rueben there
Think that he is currently on the 600 or 650 K range and even if the offer [ or any ] was say in the 700 - 750 K ball park , not sure if that would be of enough appeal for a major move
Possibly but it would be more like in the 800 K range that would seem more appealing
As far as full back play goes , fairly safe under the high ball , largely good attack , a bit shaky in defence and the goal kicking component to no doubt take into account
Would be disappointing again to see him go but with Turbo every likelihood or hopefully to have a few more good level seasons , Lehi to be accommodated somehow into the future and Saab [ probably on a modest contract ' ] longer term , hard again to manage any overs for Rueben
Then Koula inevitably into a higher salary bracket , Rueben as an even higher priced centre then at present would just not be viable at Manly

Ruebs has been one of our few 110% effort players - he has a few mistakes in him but also some point scoreing records. At times the best left winger in the game .... not a great success at centre.
If Perth want him and he is financially rewarded, good for him. Fogarty is a great goal kicker and we have some very fine young backs, he would go with my best wishes and thanks for being a great team player.

I would be more interested if there were stats on kicking based on field position / state of the game rather than just a %

As an example Ridge struck me as a pressure kicker much like Halligan (one game for the bears apart)
Ridge was the first round the corner kicker to place the ball on its side, he said that he copied the style from All Black Grant Fox as it gave him more surface area to strike the ball, prior to that the ball was place upright.

Try assists as well on that stragey

3 try asists in a game you lose 42- 26 and score points late are not equal

I suspect gambling markets compile such stats

I think from memory it was John Gray the ex pommie and Norths bloke that was the first round the corner kicker in league ..

Goalkicking, good point. If both Rubes and DCE are gone then we'll still have Fogarty but who is back-up?
DCE has been a pretty decent quality back-up. I guess at least we'll have all next year to get some candidates practicing.

I've given Garrick some **** over the years, especially with his stint in the centres and even when he last played fullback (always thought Koula should've been there in Tom's absence before Lehi emerged), but I'd honestly be pretty sad if he left. One of the best wingers in the comp IMO and is a great bloke and clubman that has always given close to 100%.

I wouldn't want to keep him on the money he could command or to play him in any other position again, but hopefully he likes it here enough to stay on unders and remain a one club man. If only we gave him a contract until 2029 like we did for our other winger...

People love opportunity to better themselves. Contract employment has a different outcome. People move distance every day and its no different to FIFO, in that many take this opportunity while young to bank for their family

He will get a much better offer, houses are cheaper , will play a better position to earn more down the track,
And his buddy chez is leaving

Family can be an attraction especially when young kids are involved but not always , especially if 2 parents are working but i cant see that as being necessary

I would imagine perth having to bring a whole squad interstate will do a melbourne with families . Everyone will be new. Be very exciting i imagine

Or maybe he thinks seibold cant coach
Absolutely there are attractions to going, not denying that, though there are also attractions to staying.

Rubes and his wife will be one to decide....I'm simply saying its not a forgone conclusion.

If you listen to Gus he always talks about the stats that clubs use are so far away from what we see etc

I thought players like Ross Conlon were well before Ridge?

TKO is a fairly Dec kicker, hopefully he gets a new contract with us soon

Moving to the other side of the country away from family support when you have a new born baby is an attraction to staying.
