Game Plan

Let’s also not forget you have Bernie Sutton watching the game live , sending text messages every 2 minutes to Stephen Kearney in the coaches box and Frank Ponissi on the sideline.

He’s picking apart the refereeing , telling them exactly how many seconds they can hold down for , evaluating what’s being let go ( and what’s not ) and which boundaries they can push and not be pinged.

You gotta give them credit for that , that’s a big reason they win so many games.

PS: I know a lot more about this subject but can’t really divulge it on here. I really think Manly should open the purse strings and employ Matt Checcin on the exact same role. It’s a very very significant advantage.
While his brother is the referee. You don't have to say anymore mate. It's plain fuking cheating 101 and the spineless NRL will do nothing about it.

The forwards

I am not going to say they were winning the battle against the storm but i dont think i can say they were getting well beaten as plenty suggest either. at least early
They had way less opportunities with the ball than the storm after a brief 50/50 split

they were not winning the ruck set after set but were determined and fought back early but briefly in this area but handling, and a lack of detail in more than 1 of the basics had them 16 nil after as many minutes, and just about to be 18, at this point the storm opened up there play , had plenty in the tank to give turbo and grilling and got there tails up and the game eased a bit. we are not a team that responds well to score board pressure against better teams

manly were very lucky not to be tackled in goal from the opening kick off and the bouncing ball is a regular feature

the openings of games where we try to go set to set with teams is not top 4 material. we do so many of the little things in this area poorly . kicks offs, catching kick offs, better opening kick than oppositions, handling, exaggerated play the balls, link men holding the ball too long and not giving the outside forwards to get in to them

no use trotting out your impact props early in games if it is to be so defence orientated . get keppie to start for his defence and bring more strike off the bench if we are just going to keep doing the same old , same old for petes sake

im expecting the pack to bristle a bit tonight and i would like to see game time shared so they could all contribute

manly has had a funny year but they had a nice patch when keppie and de luis were filling in with paseka and oka going well. much better at the basics

anyway , go manly, footy season is still alive for today. it would be great for it to be on next week. loving it

Looking at the roosters game last week all of their tries came off the back of quick play the balls and playing really direct footy angling back in behind the ruck.

Controlling ruck speed will be the biggest factor in this match, they will inevitably get some fast play the balls the key man is Radley, he needs to be watched closely, especially when Tedesco is sniffing around supporting him.

Peachey really troubled the roosters right edge defence so I think Schuster will also be a huge factor in this game, tip for man of the match if Manly get it done.

We need to focus on playing really professional finals footy this week because if we are going to go any further, we will need to be near perfect. Intensity in the defence and respecting possession. Most importantly though winning the ruck contest and playing for dominant field position.

Croker will definitely help control the ruck in the middle.

Personally, I thought our intensity was way off in all areas. In finals games, you gotta come off the back fence and you gotta get up off your line quickly...I didn't see that.

I agree, I don’t think it was a lack of effort but more so poor execution, early errors gave them an advantage. From there Melbourne just kept tightening the screws and rather than complete sets, kick to corners and tackle hard we played really panicked footy which just kept compounding the storms advantage.

The effort is there but lack of composure killed us last week. Hopefully we have learned that lesson.
