Galvin

I think it is more them looking and being somewhat ruthless.

Yes it could impact this season but they must have a belief that the current team may finish top 4 but they are not capable of winning the comp (which they feel could happen with Galvin)

To me it is a case of not accepting good results and instead looking to the future for what is the big prize

Many people derided Gus Gould about his 5 year plan for Penrith and although it took slightly more than 5 years, look how that has played out, until this year of course.

Gus is ruthless in achieving his goals and he’ll no doubt be sitting on his lounge rolling his thumbs with glee about how the Roosters may ‘back flip’ on DCE.

The problem is his position in the media, which he blatantly uses to gain advantage for his club.

Surely that's a conflict of interest but no doubt the NRL will continue to turn a blind eye to it, along with Anasta being a player manager & using his media presence to his advantage there too.

Yes, it must be nice to have a boss of a club each week saying "gee, I love this kid, this player is amazing. Hint Hint - sign with us."

It's the closest you can get to approaching a contracted player, without actually doing so.

Maybe there can be a weekly show where all the club bosses sit at a table and say which under contract player they really, really like wink wink wink.....

I just assume nrl land is too scared (or friendly) with gus and let him get away with things.
Not sure why anasta is 'allowed' to be a player mgr and on a tv show. Possibly because they can't stop him, I guess.

Anyway - it's basically done now, and gus manipulating the nrl world in the future isn't going to change. (Maybe we should've hired him, lol).

Sexton maybe. Curran and Kurt Mann would not have had only one club looking at them. They would for sure have had options. Can’t imagine they’d be on chump change. But certainly not at the higher end of the scale. That said I look at the dogs list and don’t think it alarms me in terms of the cap.

Ps Galvin from what I’ve seen is totally overhyped.
You’re right. Worth adding that Curran and Mann have been extended since their initial deals were signed too.

Fair market value. He was on 350k. Tigers offered 1.1. Dogs signed him for 750k. Sounds about right to me. 400k more than what he was on this year and next. 350k less than what the Tigers offered. Seems fair to me. Not that hard to understand really.
So if its not that hard to understand, a+b= what. because he signed for even less money than Parra offered him over the weekend also. Fair???? Just because Doggies signed him for supposedly $750k, is that his true market value, or a dodgy market value. It is hard to understand really.

Man has this kid caused a S..t fight at a few clubs. Honestly, would you want a player at your club who doesnt care about any damage that he has caused and any player that may be pushed out because of you, no I dont think so

You could always ask the braintrust at NRL headquarters, I think they have the final say, they either approve or decline to register the players contract pending if they believe the number is within the range value they determine to be a fair market value, hence it was the NRL who appraised Dalys market value @ 450, meaning they would accept and register a contract for him around that number, of course you can pay more, but I doubt you can’t pay less.

Confusing? Not at all, one could be forgiven for thinking it’s just another mechanism that allows the NRL to favour who it will at its absolute discretion, nothing hard to understand there.

The most annoying thing about the Bulldogs is that 18 months ago Manly was a mile ahead of them but they have gone way past us while we're stuck in quicksand. Boo!

Visible differences ... Laundy (obviously) but also Gus knew Ciraldo well from Panthers days and had enough faith to contemplate a long term plan, which is fairly quickly paying off.

Gould also spent time at Warriors recently, hmm they are going OK too.

OK Penn why not get the check book out and make him an offer he can't refuse?

Webster and Ciraldo, both understudies and work buddies to Cleary thru part of their recent golden years. Smart club owners at the Doggies and Warriors

I am hoping this saga pushes Preston back in our direction.

They have already told that useless little turd Reed Mahoney to find a new home. I'd say his best bet would be English Super League.

Imagine paying $625k for him. Parra must of thought wtf when he left them.

The great Trent Barrett came through the Gould system.

Remember Phil said he'd be coaching the Dogs long after Gould was gone. About 3 weeks later he was sacked.

This is the best summary.

Exactly and Panthers dream run started a few years later... Ours and the Doggies went further to sh!t.

Good point.
Although whoever is the Panthers assistant this season is not likely to be in such high demand!!

Ruthless is the way to go
Our Godfather was ruthless
Every year he would raid the oppositions Best player
and Every Manly player knew the drill
They knew that the Manly clubs priority was to be at their premiership winning prime
I do not recall any playing group disharmony at Manly under the Ruthless Arko
Arko would make sure the departing players found another home just like Gus would .
The Media builds the drama and the Smart people at the club build club harmony

Saxton and Mahoney are sought after spine players and will be rewarded by another club for their efforts . They are Professional footballers with Professional player managers. They know the drill

DCE mark 2, anyone...
Any one ?
You picked the wrong Eagle to ask this question Feathered friend

There is only one DCE playing at the Elite level at 36 years of age
All the other players over 36 are either retired busted or they are dead and dusted RIP .
The Moral of the Story
There is no DCE Mark 2
There is only one DCE ....The Original and the be$t !

Hmm seems to me very big wraps and bucks on a teenage guy who has been playing for a team whose greatest ambition is not to come last. But still came last in 2024. We will see. I feel like I personally have seen too many false prophets and failed young stars right here at Manly to buy too much into this Galvin hype. Pretty glad Manly was not a chaser for him.
