The riff have one of if not the biggest nurseries in the comp, why do they have to keep buying players from other teams
They are only doing what every other team in the competition is allowed to do and that is buy a player that they believe will help them win a competition, irrespective of the junior base they have out here.
However, forget about what they are wanting to do on the field, I stand and applaud their board in turning the leagues club around and no, not just from the number of their poker machines.
They've developed a property portfolio that will, in 15 years or so, earn them enough passive income to fund 60% of their entire football department, coupled with the anticipated appreciation in value of their property assets.
The Roosters may be the current billionaires of rugby league, the Panthers are on the prowl and are making progress and catching up.
The amount of money generated by families in this area (Penrith/Blacktown/Liverpool LGA) from sale of farmland is astronomical (the numbers from sale proceeds are eye-watering, and I'm speaking from first hand experience) and most of these families are hard-working families who have remained loyal to the Penrith Panthers.
Success on the field has made them an attractive proposition off the field and they are only going to get stronger.
They've created a fan base of kids between 6 - 16 who are so proud to be a Panthers supporter, who have witnessed 4 grand finals and want that success to continue, so with the thousands and thousands of kids here in our local junior competitions, they WANT to play for Penrith, to be THAT player who will try to ensure that this success continues.
And yet, after all the riches the Panthers have in terms of future NRL stars, they still want the best of the rest, so to speak.
Their squad has depleted over the years however, they have set an expectation of themselves that they will not use that as an excuse.
It has been a remarkable turn around both on the field and off it as well.
As a "westie" I love Manly and nothing will ever change my love for Manly however, I laugh and have a wry smile when people comment on our "socio-economic and demographic standing" in relation to the rest of Sydney, knowing full well, that corporations are falling over themselves to be seen amongst the Panthers community whilst we, as a Club are still battling on that front.
Sorry
@MissKate, I went off on a tangent, however I was trying to answer your question from a more holistic perspective of why the Panthers are still chasing players.
