It would be great to get an answer to this question. If he has played FB before he should at least be given some trial time in the fullback position.

I would love to see the part of the trial with the backline below. (Half the trial game would be great)

1. Schuster
2. Saab
3. Walker
4. Suli
5. Tupilotu
6. Foran
7. Cherry Evans
Looks great but we dont know if he can play fb. Very high pressure position and no protection really and positional play has to be spot on. He definitely has the build skills and speed

Hi Brett
Morning Des...

I'm liking the tips you are giving the young ones.
Thanks Des.

Now go get suited up for a jersey, You're playing round 1...!!!!
You betcha!
Oh global...that was like one of those scenes in a movie that you can’t watch because it’s too cringe-worthy...

I think this is why there is a delete function
;-)

Corey Thompson is at the Titans and behind in the pecking order. Perhaps going after him will solve our back up fb problems. He is miles better then any of the players we have.. funa is the best choice based on last year but Thompson trumps them all and wouldn't be too much. Thoughts Silvertails?
Already have the young talent in the club now to give an opportunity to and versatile kids at that. Should be adequate cover in koula . Weekes . Funa and Harper to fill the void Ideally also of course , Turbo can be ready to go after the i st month of competition .

From my experience full back is the most difficult position on the field in respect of positional play and anticipation. There is no one to cover you and if you mess it up its try time. Its a position that takes time to learn and frankly some guys just don't have the anticipation nor read the game that well. Even Mitchell struggled at fullback last year IMO and he has loads of talent somewhat overwhelmed by his ego off course. I don't expect wingers and centres of lesser talent are going to solve the problem. You need 2 specialist fullbacks in your 30 that you are prepared to use otherwise its just more blue tack. Our replacement full backs last year were disappointing.

I "d still make an exception with Elliott , not the most polished of full backs and was never destined to be but for the majority of his time at that back , reliable , safe and quite courageous at times .

I voted for Funa only because I think that Reubs playing on the wing is best for both the team and him. He tries hard at fullback, but he's a winger, plain and simple. Same reason I wouldn't even think about moving the Volvo back there. (@Mark from Brisbane - that Volvo crack is your fault  )

Funa on the other hand did a decent enough job in the #1 jumper at the back end of last year, although with a fully fit (pardon the pun) Turbo I think Tevita's future is in the centres if he stays with Manly long term. Morgan Harper might be a candidate, but I have grave doubts about his defensive abilities at fullback.

For mine I just really hope Des leaves our wingers where they are and like with Elliot, he brings in someone to play the position who can do the job. So yeah, I hope he goes with Funa.

Of course, another option could be playing Dylan Walker back there with Brad Parker (for the time being) keeping his spot in the centres.

Thoughts Silvertails?
I'd prefer to give opportunities to our junior talents, Weekes & Koula, even if takes a couple of years for them to become established as NRL players.

My Moto is
If they have the talent and toughness . Pump them up and give them the confidence and the opportunity to shine in our top starting line

Surely between Saab, Tuipilotu, Funa, Harper and Garrick one of them can do a good enough job for us. I don't see the need to buy a back up fullback! Could even put Walker there and play one if these guys at centre.

I reckon with the experience Funa gained last year, and another solid preseason under his belt .... he will do a fair job and surprise a few people ... he is No Tommy ... but he will go well enough .. he has the talent ...

And with a top 4/5 pack and DCE, Foran, Schuster, Walker, Suli, et al in the backline we still have the troops and fire power that should beat most teams ...

We are not done yet ... it is a 17 man game .. and our other 16 aren't mugs ...

I was happy to see him go. Did ok in the first year, but last year his attacking play was non-existent and he had a knack for arriving in the frame a second after every try was scored against manly. He was off the pace.
