Do we really want him at Manly?
New Zealand Warriors star Sione Faumuina has had his NRL contract terminated by the Auckland-based club following an alcohol-related incident.
The talented utility is believed to have been involved in a serious incident which took place on Sunday following the Warriors' win over the Roosters at Mt Smart Stadium.
Sunday's concern is the second off-field issue involving Faumuina this season after he was fined and reprimanded by the club for getting intoxicated at veteran Awen Guttenbeil's testimonial lunch just over a month ago.
However, the latest behaviour topic has left the Warriors with no choice but to terminate Faumuina's contract with the club.
"This was a further incident of serious misconduct involving alcohol and, as a result, we had no option but to terminate Sione's contract immediately," said Warriors chief executive Wayne Scurrah.
"We had endeavoured to assist him with the apparent issues he has with alcohol but, despite assurances from him that he would take up the offer of support, we're very disappointed that another serious incident has occurred so soon."
"While terminating the contract of a player of Sione's standing and experience is unfortunate, we're not prepared to compromise the standards of behaviour that we are striving to build and maintain at this club."
It seems as though he has a drinking problem that he has not been prepared to do anything about - even with an offer of assistance from the Warriors.
Maybe a change of club & influences may be just the tonic he needs.....
